BJ Fudge says birds can't count, an advantage for photographers

Billy Joe Fudge writes:
I would like to contribute one more little tibbit of information: Birds can't count.

If you set up a blind close to a bird feeding station from which you want to shoot photos and you would like for the birds to return as soon as possible then take someone in with you. When that person leaves the blind then and since birds can't count, they think the blind has been vacated and will return.

Unless our Adair County Birds are more highly educated than others around the world this should work for you.-Billy Joe Fudge

Birds of Kentucky: Taking photos of birds

It's fun. But it's not always easy. Following a few basic rules will help get a winning photograph. From the camera to how to dress to how to behave, Barbara Armitage covers the basics in one quick lesson, in plenty of time to be ready for the Great Backyard Bird Count, February 18, 19 20, and 21, 2011

By Barbara Armitage

It's 8:04 a.m. and I've lost the sun behind the clouds so I'm back in the house. Taking photos of wild birds is not always easy or as in the case this morning - warm.

People often see one of my bird photos and say "what a lucky shot" or they say "you must have a really good camera". Well they're right about both it is often a lucky shot. On an average I can shoot four or five hundred photos and there will be one "lucky" shot in the group. And yes I do have a very good camera with a very nice telephoto lens.

John Nall: Hat off to all the road crews

John Nall writes:
My hat is off to the county, city, and state road crews for the work they have done in our latest snow problems. There has not been a day when I could not go where and when it was needed. Those workers have put in long hours day and night, and we should recognize them for their efforts in taking care of us. This also goes out to Judge Ann Melton, Mayor Mark Harris, and the State Supervisors who coordinated the work. -John Nall
