Notice to Columbia/Adair Water Customers

Jennifer Carter writes:
Several of our customers are receiving a letter from a company or companies in Louisville providing water line service coverage. This letter is not from Columbia/Adair Utilities District and we advise customers to check out the company with the Better Business Bureau before signing up for their coverage.

As stated in the letter the service line from the meter to the house is the customers responsibility, we only maintain the main line to the meter. This company is just a warranty company according to their letter and they do not do any of the repair work should you have a break in your line. Bam Carney appointed to Appropriations and Revenue

Frankfort, KY (January 11, 2010) - Rep. John 'Bam' Carney, R-Campbellsville (51st District) has been appointed to serve on the Appropriations and Revenue Committee in the Kentucky House of Representatives.

"I'm pleased and humbled to be appointed to serve on this committee," said Rep. Carney. "I pledge to work hard toward making Kentucky's budget fiscally responsible to taxpayers in Adair and Taylor counties, and make sure people know how their money is being spent."

"Bam's selection to the House A&R committee is a testament to his abilities and leadership as a legislator," said House Republican Floor Leader Jeff Hoover, R-Jamestown. "It also reinforces the confidence Bam's constituents showed by selecting him as their state representative."

In addition to being appointed to the Appropriations and Revenue Committee, Carney was also appointed vice-chairman of the House Education and Economic Development committees, and a member of the Agriculture and Small Business, and State Government committees.

Rep. Carney was first elected to the Kentucky House of Representatives in 2008.

CU will celebrate Black History month with 2 Feb. events

Flags in KY at half-staff for Tucson victims

Frankfort, KY - Gov. Steve Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff from Monday, Jan. 10 to Friday Jan. 14, 2010 in honor of the victims in Saturday's Tucson, AZ, shooting tragedy.

"Saturday's senseless act of violence is truly unthinkable and its repercussions have affected not only the citizens of Arizona, but this entire nation," said Gov. Beshear. "I ask that Kentuckians join with me in honoring and praying for the victims, their friends and families."

Gov. Beshear encourages individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies to join in this tribute.

The hills are aglow, was the thought that came to mind as I sat astraddle the Adair/Cumberland County line on Hwy 704. My view was to the East of the confluence of Sand Lick Branch and Crocus Creek in the early morning looking up Box House Hill toward Wolf Creek Dam.

UPDATE: No School in Adair Co. District Jan. 11, 2011, after all

NO SCHOOL IN ADAIR COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT TODAY:
David Jones, Director of Transportation for the Adair County School District, called at 6:04amCT, Tuesday, January 11, 2011, to announce:

No School in Adair County today

"We took another look at the situation in the last hour," he said. "there's been rain, sleet, and patches of black ice. It is just too dangerous to run the busses today."

Earlier, Mr. Jones had called at 5:06amCT, Tuesday, January 11, 2011, to say "Adair County School busses will run on a one hour delay this morning." But the new announcement, "No school today," supersedes that.

Classes at Adair Co. Youth Development Center on Regular Schedule

Teachers and faculty at AYDC are reminded that classes at Adair Youth Development Center, 401 Appleby DR.,Columbia, KY (MAP) Adair Youth Development Center Will Start on Time.
