Slanted barn sides were a feeding convenience Gary Lane writes: These barns were built for feeding cattle on the outside wall inside the barn. The hay would be stored in a loft over the cattle and thrown against the outside wall inside the barn to a hay manger below. The hay would fall into a hay manger below. Cattle ate through slotted openings in the hay manger. My grandfather fed cattle for years in a barn similar to this.-Gary LaneComments re article 41666 Wonders why barns built as they are 2011-01-10 15:08:10 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback

Snow Day Diary, Sunday, January 9, 2011 in Gradyville, KY Click on headlline for photo(s). Posting in progress By Sharon Whitehurst The old thermometer hanging in the carport read between 10 and 12 degrees when I ventured out before 7:30am Sunday morning. Our cats had been sitting heavily on me, encouraging me to leave the warm quilt-laden bed and fix their breakfast. With the wood fires replenished and the indoor felines satisfied, I stepped outside with food and warm milk for the adopted "barn kittens." The dooryard was so beautiful with its icing of diamonds that I put on Carhartts and warm boots, and went back out with the camera.Sharon Whitehurst 2011-01-10 07:24:34 | Comments | Printable version
