Birds flock to home of Maury Lewis, the perfect hostess

By Barbara Armitage

I had a chance to visit my friend Maury Lewis this morning and photograph just a few of her birds. I'm hoping for warmer weather and another invitation to go back and take some more photos.

Maury Lewis is an avid birdwatcher/feeder. Her feeding station is set up just right - from the huge rock bird table to the brush pile she left nearby.

Always the perfect hostess she has provided for each bird's dietary needs. There is an Adair County Garden Club Gourmet Suet Ball, a hopper feeder filled with birdie delights and, of course, a double sock filled with Nyjer seed for the Goldfinches.

Wear red or blue? Just remember the troops, she says

Tricia Janes writes:
Joe, that seems like a great idea, but it puts me in a dilemma about what color to wear now. I have been wearing red every Friday since my son Zachary Janes got deployed in July 2010. RED stands for Remember Everyone Deployed and the Soldiers Angels site has the shirts in their store to purchase which I wear proudly every Friday! I suppose it doesn't matter what color a person wears as long as they support our troops. -Tricia Janes P.S. I believe your church sent Zachary a care package that he received before Christmas and he was so happy to get it that he caught me online to tell me about it! Thank you so much!

Weather causes cancellation of CU-VA/Wise games

By Christ Megginson

The Mid-South Conference basketball doubleheader between Campbellsville University and University of Virginia's College at Wise has been postponed. The games were originally scheduled for Saturday, January 8, 2011, at 2 and 4ET at Powell Athletic Center, 203 Tiger Way, Campbellsville, KY.

The games will be played on Monday, January 10, 2011, at 6pmET/5pmCT and at 8pmET/7pmCT.

Winter weather in eastern Kentucky and western Virginia created poor travel conditions for Virginia-Wise, who was unable to make the trip to Campbellsville on Saturday.

The Campbellsville Lady Tigers (12-2) are currently ranked No. 3 in the NAIA and lead the Mid-South Conference at 5-0. The Tigers are 9-6 overall and sit in sixth place in the MSC with a 3-2 conference record.

BJF suggests Splendor of Winter celebration next year

Billy Joe Fudge writes:
That ladies and gentlemen should be Columbia/Adair County's official Christmas card.

And in addition, this could be our invitation to the world for the "Splendor of Winter," here, in our community during January each year.

It could read:
"The quiet, warm spirit of Winters Past is waiting for you in Columbia."
Yes I agree, there is a lot of planning to do but we do have a whole year.
