Gov. Beshear appoints BG Mayor as new Secretary of State

Current Bowling Green, KY, Mayor Elaine Walker will replace Trey Grayson, who has announced plans to retire to take job at Harvard University

Frankfort, KY - Governor Steve Beshear today announced that he will appoint Elaine Walker, the current mayor of Bowling Green, as Kentucky's new Secretary of State. Current Secretary of State Trey Grayson announced earlier today that he will resign shortly to accept a job at Harvard University.

Lawmen make arrests in Edmonton, KY, meth case

Detectives discovered a methamphetamine lab at 201 Dunham ST, Edmonton, KY, on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at approximately 2:09pmCT, hours d after detectives received an anonymous tip of possible drug activity from the home. Paul Brandon Harper and Pamela Harper of Edmonton were arrested and charged with Manufacturing Methamphetamine.

The investigation continues.

Kentucky State Police West Drug Enforcement, Kentucky State Police Drug Task Force, Kentucky State Police Post 15, and Edmonton Police Department all took part in the operation.

Driver injured in Russell Creek Hill accident

Kathy Hare, 59, was operating a 2001 Ford Explorer when shelost control going east up Russell Creek Hill between WHVE and Russell Springs, when the vehicle left roadway onwestbound lane of travel, striking a rock embankment.

The accident occurred at around 6:30amCT, Friday morning, January 7, 2011.

Hare was transported to Russell Co.Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Accident was investigated by Deputy Justin Burris and assisted byRichard Redmon of the Adair County, KY, Sheriff's Office.

KY among 1st to get electronic health records Federal funds

News from Commonwealth News Center

Kentucky is among the first four states in the country to begin receiving federal dollars from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for electronic health records under the 2009 stimulus law. The funding -Medicaid incentive payments - will assist with the purchase or upgrade of information technology systems for health care records. Because they were the first providers to complete the federal and state application processes, the University of Kentucky (UK) Healthcare and Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington are the first hospitals in the country to receive checks provided through this funding.

I would just like to thank the entire community for such a wonderful success on our Harlem Wizards fundraiser. I would like to send a special thanks to ACHS Booster parent, Laurie Dunbar, for all of her hard work and dedication in making this fundraiser a success.

This was an amazing night as the Adair Co. Middle School gym was completely filled. I would say it has been early 90's since that gym has been so full. Thanks to the entire community and I hope they enjoyed the night of fun.

Fires on Thursday in The Millerfields, on Royal Oaks RD

Firemen battle flu fire at Wesley Goodin property; grass fire on Darrell McGaha place during eight hour span.

The Adair County Fire Dept responded to two separate fires, both in Northeast Adair Co., KY, on Thursday, January 6, 2011.

The first was at 10:35amCT, to a flu fire at 875 Wesley Goodin RD (MAP) in the Millerfield Community, approximately 15 miles from the fire station. The Property is owned by Wesley Goodin. The fire was contained within the flu with no damage to the home with 11 firemen on the scene for around an hour.

The second was at 5:56pmCT, to a grass fire, approximately 4 miles from Columbia, KY off Liberty Road at 375 Royal Oaks Road, (MAP), Columbia, KY, to property owned by Darrell McGaha about 1/2 acre of land burned, there were 10 firemen on the scene for 30 minutes. -Donald Hare

Lindsey Wilson College basketball teams sweep WV Tech

Kalen Kimberland scores career high 24 points in men's 80-73 win; Viktoria Krell contributes game high 27 points in women's 76-57 victory.

Columbia, KY - It was a career night for Adair County native Kalen Kimberland on Thursday night at Biggers Sports Center as the sophomore guard keyed a big Lindsey Wilson College win. The Adair County graduate scored a career-high - and a game-high - 24 points as the Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team beat Mid-South Conference foe West Virginia Institute of Technology 80-73 at Biggers Sports Center. The Blue Raiders improved to 12-3 overall and 3-1 in the MSC.

In the women's game, Viktoria Krell scored a game-high 27 points to go with five rebounds as the 19th-ranked LWC women's basketball team cruised past West Virginia Tech 76-57. LWC improved to 11-3 overall and 3-1 in the Mid-South Conference.

Next Blue Raider Men's and Women's Basketball hosts University of Rio Grande at Biggers Sports Center. (MAP)

No School in Adair County Today, Friday, January, 7, 2011

"No School in Adair County, today." That's the word from David Jones, Director of Pupil Transportation for the Adair County School District, who made the announcement at 5:26amCT, this Friday morning, January 7, 2011.

Jones said that, while there was not much snow on the ground at this time, it was beginning to snow and he wouldn't be taking any chances.

Classes on time at AYDC: Sue Buley writes: Since the snow looks like it will get worse as the morning progresses, classes at Adair Youth Development Center, 401 Appleby DR, Columbia, KY (MAP) will start on time.

The National Weather Service in Louisville, has issued an Urgent Winter Weather Warning at 4:28amET/3:28amCT, January 7, 2011 stating that " . . . a round of light to moderate snow is expected across South-Central Kentucky today with the greatest impact on travel this morning as roads become snow covered..."The Area includes the cities of Burkesville, Campbellsville, Columbia, Edmonton, Greensburg, Jamestown, and Liberty in our area, as well as Brownsvile, Munfordville, Glasgow, Bowling Green, Albany, Franklin, and Tompkinsville.
