It will be a quiet and solemn, brief event By Phil Aaron, M.D. It will be a quiet and solemn brief event; only a few friends are expected. But to those involved the memories continue, the loss persists, there is a vacuum in their lives. The chapel hidden in Taylor Rural Health will be named. Dedicated a few years ago by the Brotherhood class of the Columbia Baptist Church, the chapel will be appropriately named the Hillary Morgan Hadley Chapel. Appropriately named because the beautiful chapel pews were salvaged and refurbished by Hillary's dad, Bart Maxie Hadley - a master wood worker. A simple plaque will be placed on one of the pews bearing Hillary's name and picture and the chapel will now be opened to anyone in the community who wishes to use this beautiful room for prayer or a quiet refuge. This naming will occur Thursday, November 11, 2010, at 6:30pmCT. Access to the Chapel will be through the rear entrance to Taylor Rural Health, 805 Burkesville ST, Columbia, KY. A prayer book to be signed has been provided by Kathy Hadley's fellow nurses at Westlake Cumberland Hospital. Money can still be donated in Hillary's name to SAMARITAN'S PURSE, a nationwide disaster relief organization at: SAMARITAN'S PURSEor to The Hillary Hadley Scholarship Fund 2010-11-08 14:05:19 | Comments | Printable version

Charles Marshburn has hang-up on use of word Charles Marshburn writes: Is Columbia recognized as the drug capital of Kentucky? Could it be that the druggies are zeroing in on Columbia because if caught they are lodged instead of jailed? Just a thought. -Charles MarshburnI doubt it very much. As far as we are concerned, people continue to be people when they are lodged in any of the local prisons. A bigger Christian concern might be to be vigilant about the conditions when anyone is incarcerated, whether they are guilty or innocent - as surely many must be. "Lodged" is a perfectly good word. That's the way we have, for decades, expressed the situation Its a part of the our language. -EW 2010-11-08 08:52:08 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback
Charles Marshburn: Columbia Bypass is local Albatross Needs better signage, better advertising. Without he says, problem will solve itself in a sinkhole Charles Marshburn writes November 8, 2010: The bypass that Mr. Fudge is talking about seems to be the local Albatross which is unused, unadvertised and should play a much greater part in relieving traffic as was presented in the original planning. Perhaps a sign that advertises Walmart, Goodwill, the parkway, truck route, long lonely empty stretch of asphalt, fast food bypass, traffic bottleneck bypass, roundabout roulette, etc. Don't change anything and in 100 years the problem will probably be taken care of by a sink hole!
