BJ Fudge presents alternative to traffic lights For now, he thinks the yield issue shoud be back burnered. He suggests high speed, non-emergency double parking are biggest traffic problems for DowntownThinks sensible, lower speed limits is better answer and strict enforcement would work better. Thinks yield change not needed Comments re article 40426 Thank You to Charles Marshburn Request for enlightenment By Billy Joe Fudge Guest commentary on Downtown Traffic flow Yes, I agree that traffic is still a problem in our Downtown. However, I don't think the solution is traffic signals or changing the yield procedure. Neither do I think the solution is speeding up the traffic flow. Some of the answers are to lower the speed limit coming onto the square to 25 mph or below, establish a speed limit on the Square that is not over 10 mph, and then enforce the speed limits. Thank You to Charles Marshburn. Request for enlightenment Linda Waggener writes after reading Traffic lights instead of roundabout at Old Courthouse? letter from Charles Marshburn: Great thoughts. I think we need to keep this discussion going and going until finally traffic on the square is under control. Why do we still have traffic jams now that there's a bypass? Why are there towns with exact opposite yield directions, like Burkesville, and which one works best to keep traffic flowing? - LindaEnlightenment, please: In Columbia, traffic on the square has the right of way. In Burkesville, oncoming traffic has the right of way. If anybody knows why the yielding is practiced quite oppositely on the Burkesville and Columbia squares, please let us know. Let us know whether you think there should be a coin toss to make them the same in both towns. 2010-11-07 10:10:23 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback

Guest editorial: Thoughts on the Old Courthouse Fresh off major victories in the Nov. 2, 2010 election, with successful endorsements in It's Just for A Smile News for County Judge Ann Melton and PVA Willie M. Feese, JR, - he got them both re-elected - the editor and publisher of the highly influential print publication (a wholly separately owned news operation from ColumbiaMagazine.com) offers a common sense suggestion for the use of the Historic Courthouse: as a primary venue for the Performing Arts. For him, it isn't about picking and grinning, Hee Haw, or even Gospel Music. That isn't his cup of tea: It's just a straightforward approach to getting more business in Columbia, KY, and that, he admits, tickles and entertains him more than anything besides his delightful grandchildren. By Ralph Waggener From the Editor and Publisher of It's Just for a Smile News I was thinking the other day about all the singing groups and entertainers we have here in Adair County. Adair County is blessed with some of the greatest performing artists to be found anywhere. There are gospel groups and Elaine Bennett' ensemble, the Dream Depot Players, who perform original comedy and enjoy singing together. A Kindred Spirit: Thoughts on November Teresa Bell Kindred Nanahood I'm just not sure how November got here so quickly this year. Did someone take September and October off the calendar? How can it be time to be thinking about Thanksgiving and Christmas? And speaking of Christmas, have you noticed some stores have their decorations out? I know it's childish but I refuse to look at them until after Thanksgiving. So if you see me in a store and I am feeling my way around with my eyes closed it's because I don't believe it's right to put Christmas decorations out until after Thanksgiving.
