Gen. Election 2010: Joseph Payne wins School Bd. seat in Division 3

Board of Education, Division 3 In the only contested board of education race, Joseph Payne won the race in Division 3, to replace Chris Watts, who chose not to run for re-election.

- Jackie Turner, 305
In Division 1, Rebecca Turner was unopposed, and received 603 votes. She replaces Greg Willis, who chose to run for Magistrate in District 3 as an independent, but was defeated by incumbent Republican Sammy Baker.

The two winners tonight will join Marsha Walker (2), Floyd Burton (4) and Mike Harris (5) on the five member Board of Education.

Gen. Election 2010: Fiscal Court, 6-1 Republican majority

Adair Fiscal Court will be have six Republicans and one Democrat starting January 2011.

Republicans Harold Burton (1), Darryl Flatt (2), and Sammy Baker (3) won tonight; and join Perry Reeder (4), Billy Dean Coffey (5), and Billy Rowe (7) in the Republican majority.

General Election, Nov. 2, 2010: Ann is winning. but Democrats do well

Projected Winners: CJE, Ann Melton. Sheriff, Harrison Moss. Jailer, Rick Wilson. PVA, Wm. M. Feese, Jr.

At 7:26pm Unoffical counts from precincts around the county indicate that Democrats will capture three offices:
  • Democrat Rick Wilson appears to be headed for a big victory
  • Democrat PVA Wm. M. Feese. well ahead of Republican Paul Turner.
  • Democrat Harrison Moss The surprise of the evening is developing in the Sheriff's race, where Moss is projected to defeat Bobby Sullivan.
  • County Judge Executive Ann Melton, by early reports, will win by a comfortable margin over Democratic challenger Wid Harris.
Results are now pouring in to the Adair County Courthouse from precincts around the county and counting through computers is going really fast.

Nov. 2, 2010 General Election: Absentee Results are in in Adair Co. KY

At 6:20pmCT reports from around the county were that precincts were having trouble shutting down voting machines because of a time problem. Results may be as much as one hour later than normal, according to Adair County Court Clerk Sheila Blair's Office.Results from the absentee ballots have been tallied for the Adair County General Election, Tuesday, November 2, 2010:

Garden club can make good use of them

I think that Fall fell in my yard this week.

Once again tis' the season for raking leaves - I look at it as an early Christmas present from Mother Nature her way of helping us get a head start on our gardens for next spring.

That's what fallen leaves are for, to replenish nutrients in the soil, help hold moisture in and even as a type of weed control. That is if you use them like nature intended.

Worker pleads guilty to patient abuse in Madison Co., KY

Worker no longer eligible to work with vulnerable adults

Office of Attorney General Jack Conway


Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway and his Office of Medicaid Fraud and Abuse Control today announced the guilty plea of a former mental health worker at Independent Opportunities of Madison County for the mistreatment of a mentally challenged resident. The incident, which left the resident with minor injuries, occurred in September of 2009 at a Berea support for community living residence.

Two vehicle collision on Liberty RD, results in injuries to 2

Information from the Adair Co. KY Sheriff's Office

Monday afternoon, November 1, 2010 at 3:15pmCT, 16 year old Cody Cowan was operating a 1987 Ford Ranger when he attempted to make a left hand turn off Liberty RD and pulled into the path of 55 year old John Tarter of Liberty, KY, who was operating a 2005 Dodge.

Tarter struck Cowan in the right rear side of the truck bed, resulting in severe damage to both vehicles.

Cowanand passenger,18 year old Steven Vaughn were transported by EMS toWestlake Regional Hospital were they were treated and released.

Accident was investigated by Deputy Joey Burris of the Adair CO. Sheriff's Office.

Joe Willis Bledsoe, 89, Charlestown, IN, formerly of the Creelsboro Community of Russell Co., KY, died Monday, November 1, 2010, at Clark Memorial Hospital, Jeffersonville, IN.

The funeral service, with military honors, will be at 10amCT, Thursday, November 4, 2010, at Bernard Funeral Home, 367 Main ST, Russell Springs, KY, with Bro. Larry Jones the officiating clergy. Visitation will be after 5pmCT, Wednesday, November 3, 2010, at the funeral home.1 Burial will be in Campbell Cemetery.

Blue Raider Women's basketball vs. WKU

Lindsey Wilson College's Women's Blue Raider Basketball team will face the Western Kentucky Lady Toppers in an exhibition in game at E.A. Diddle Arena, 1 Big Red Way, Bowling Green, KY, tonight, November 2, 2010, at 7pmCT.

Lindsey Wilson Head Coach John Wethington is in his 22nd year at the helm of the Blue Raiders. The Western Kentucky University graduate (1987) has amassed a record of 399 wins vs 258 losses in his career, all at Linsey Wilson. Lindsey Wilson's assistant coach is Steve Beck.

Mary Taylor Cowles (WKU, 1992) is the coach of the Toppers. Latasha Dorsey and Latrice McLin are her asistants. This is the third in the exhibition series. Western won the previous two, in 2007 and in 2009.

In last night's Columbia City Council meeting, the Council voted to approve the second reading of an ordinance which will establish a joint City of Columbia/County of Adair Parks and Recreation Board. The unanimous vote 6-0, came on a motion by Councillor Linda Waggener, with a second by Councillor Charles Grimsley, with Councillors Craig Dean, Edwin Taylor, Joe Moore, and June Parsons voting yes on a voice vote.
