Adair County Band won! Bringing Bob Back to Columbia, KY!

I'm calling to let everyone know that the Adair County Band Won!

We're bringing "Bob" back to his rightful home in the Adair County High School Marching Band trophy room!

We'll be back Sunday, October 31, 2010. I'll keep you posted on our ETA so everyone in Adair County can jam the Square to welcome the Champions safely and triumphantly home again! -Shamarie Claiborne

Adair County Band is at UL Stadium for finals

Papa John's Stadium, Louisville, KY - The Adair County Marching Band was one of four of the 16 semi-final competitors to make it to the State Finals tonight.

The Indian Band, along with former ACHS Band Member Eric Hale's Bourbon County Band, Paris, KY; Taylor County Band from Campbellsville, KY, and the Boyle County Band, from Danville, KY will all compete tonight at the University of Louisville Papa John's Stadium.

The Adair County kids are warming up now. They will take the field at 7:15, Columbia time. Judging should be over with the winners announced at 9:30pm, Columbia time.

Thanks to everyone in Columbia who is rooting for us. The kids were great today.

Columbia Police arrest two on drug related charges

News from the Columbia Police Department


Officers 0f the Columbia Police Department arrested Carter Brown, 33, Columbia, KY, and Melinda Loy, 39, also from Columbia, KY on Friday, October 29, 2010.

Brown was charged with Possession of a controlled substance 1st degree-methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Loy was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence 1st offense, possession of controlled substance 3rd degree, prescription controlled substance not in the original container, and tampering with physical evidence.

Both Brown and Loy were lodged in the Adair Regional Jail.

Obituary: Ronnie Hatfield, 52, Adair Co., KY

He was a member of a respected Northeast Adair Co., KY, family and of the New Hope Separate Baptist Church. He was an employee of Cox Interior of Campbellsville, KY

Ronnie Hatfield age 52 years of Columbia, KY passed away suddenly Thursday October 28, 2010 at his home.

The funeral service will be Monday November 1, 2010 at 10amCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY, with Bro. David Coffey the officiating clergy. Interment in the New Hope Cemetery, 131 New Hope Church RD, Columbia, KY. The family requests visiting after 2pmCT, on Sunday, October 31, 2010, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.

Adair Co. Marching Band in State semi-finals

News from the Adair County Marching Band


The Adair County Marching Band will take the field at 1:15pmET/12:15pmCT today, Saturday, October 30, 2010, in the Kentucky Music Educators SMBC AAA Semi-finals at Meade Co. High School, 938 Old State RD, Brandenburg, KY.

The Adair County performance will come immediately before Bourbon County, Paris, KY, performs under ACHS Band alumnus Eric Hale.

Russell Co. High School performs at 11amET/10amCT, the first of 17 bands at the semi-final competition.

Taylor Co. High School performs at 2:30pmET/1:30CT.

Columbia, KY stabbing victim airlifted from Westlake

Adair Co. KY - Kentucky State Police in Columbia are investigating a stabbing that occurred on KY1952 in Adair Co, KY on Friday night, October 29, 2010, at approximately 9pmCT.

Upon arrival KSP units discovered John Haskiell, age 48, of Columbia with apparent stab wounds. Haskiell was transported to Westlake Regional Hospital by EMS and later airlifted to UofL hospital where he is listed in stable condition.

It was discovered through investigation that Derak Janes, age 49, of Columbia had stabbed Haskiell. Janes was subsequently charged with assault 1st degree and lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail. Detective Jamie Richard is investigating the assault. KSP was assisted on the scene by Adair County EMS and the Adair County Sheriff's Department. The investigation is ongoing.
