Black Bass fishing great at Lake Cumberland

FISHING The striped bass and walleye deaths hurt the public's image of Lake Cumberland, but the black bass fishing may be the best ever in the lake.

News from Kentucky Fish and WildlifeFrankfort, KY - The sight of hundreds of medium-sized striped bass and quality walleye floating bloated and dead on the surface of Lake Cumberland in August and September sent a shudder throughout the Kentucky fishing community.

The ongoing repair work on Wolf Creek Dam means the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers must keep Lake Cumberland much lower than normal, resulting in higher water temperatures in the depths with less dissolved oxygen. The situation worsened in August to the point that some striped bass and walleye in the lake perished.

It isn't just because she is pretty that Billy Joe Fudge identifies this large but seductive lady in a redbud tree as a female. "At this time of the year," he said, "she's probably already eaten her husband. That's probably why she is so big."

On KY 206: Is it a BEAR or COW???

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Ed, please don' use my name.

However, please go up Hwy 206 and look on the left side of the road about one mile up. The sun was so bright that I could not determine whether it was a bear or a dead cow.

The word here (where I work) is that it is a dead BEAR. If that is the case, it is a rather large one.

Hey, if this is the case. We would have have actual pictures of black bear in Adair County.

Being the great reporter that you are....I will look later to see what you find.

Dispatch from a supposed BR Bear Board Member (or Wannabe)

Thanks! This is downright incredible news. But as close as this is to Casey County, it is little wonder there's a bear there. If anyone gets photographic evidence before we do, please send it before our phone starts ringing off the hook. -EW

Wonders about the News 100 Years Ahead

About: 100 years ago: October 12, 2010

By M.E. Lewis

Have you ever thought 100 years from now how people will be reading Columbia Magazine.

Computers will probably be a thing of the past and the stories will be put in a machine and you can walk into the machine and experience the story all over again.

Too much Star Trek watching. Ha ha.

Something for the minds of Adair County to ponder.M.E. Lewis

What a set-up for a Futurist. If there are any futurists among us. After all, our city's wonderful Grand Duchy of Fenwick like motto is Looking back to forge ahead. I'm thinking you won't have to walk into a machine to re-experience the past.
