Tougher striped bass, walleye rules at Lake Cumberland

Special regulations on striped bass, walleye on Lake Cumberland rescinded

Frankfort, KY -The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources rescinded the special emergency regulations on striped bass in Lake Cumberland effective October 12, 2010. The previous 2-fish daily creel limit on striped bass with a 24-inch minimum size limit is now back in effect on the lake.

Commissioner Dr. Jon Gassett issued a Wildlife Disaster Contingency Measure on Sept. 1 because high water temperatures and low dissolved oxygen levels stressed striped bass to the point of death.

Russell Co. collision results in injuries to two

Trooper Mike Woodrum is investigating a collision that occurred today, Friday, October 8, 2010, at 1pmCT, approximately 3 miles East of Russell Springs, KY on Highway 619. Seventeen year old Mollie Blevins, of Jamestown, KY, was operating a 2004 Pontiac. Blevins was attempting to pull onto Highway 619 from Lucinda Cemetery Road and pulled into the path of a 1998 Toyota being operated by 17 year old Jeremy Morgan, of Russell Springs, KY.

Barbara Armitage and I delivered 6 trays of her great (in size and taste) cinnamon rolls to down town businesses this morning and she just delivered rounds of fresh baked bread.

Barbara will go through the process of baking the cinnamon rolls tomorrow morning so they will be hot at 6:30 am when we get set up.

Dan and I would like to thank everyone who gave us support through the illness and death of his mother Eva Gentry. Special thanks to the ICU nurses at Westlake Regional Hospital, Pastor Neil Janes of Columbia United Methodist Church, Brenda Williams, Patty Troutman, Billy Pickett, the Ladies of the United Methodist Church (for the meal), Richard Phelps and Louis McQueary and others to numerous too mention. It was a sad time, but Mom is forever at home.

Mark DeAlba will perform at Campbellsville University's noon organ series Tuesday, October 12, 2010, at 12:20pmET/11:20amCT. The event is free and open to the public. It will take place in the university's Ransdell Chapel, located at 401 North Hoskins AV, Campbellsville. KY

DeAlba is an organist from Stanford Christian Church in Stanford, KY, and he is currently a senior at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in Lexington He began studying piano at age six, and the organ at age eight.

Middle of Nowhere has Adair/Russell musicians

Middle of Nowhere is a hard rock band made up of some up and coming musicians from Columbia and Russell Springs, KY. They will be performing their first full concert tonight, Friday, October 8, 2010, at 7:15pmCT, at the Rusty Nail stage in the NE corner of the Public Square, in front of the Adair Annex Building, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY.

Members are:
  • Mark Crockett from Russell Springs on guitar
  • Matt Crockett from Russell Springs on bass guitar
  • Chad Compton from Columbia on guitar
  • Lee Kendrick from Columbia, vocalist
  • Nick Kemp, from Columbia, drummer
"Middle of Nowhere does mostly cover songs but does some original songs, too," Lee Kendrick said. "The band's influences are bands like Velvet Revolver, Stone Temple Pilots, Sound Garden, Audioslave, Tool and Candlebox to name a few."

Writer wants sign to show way Adair Co. School District campus

This commentary was received earlier. We agree with Sena Schaeffer that a sign at the intersection of Dillon ST and Greensburg Street pointing traffic to Adair County High School should be a top priority for the City, as suggested by Councillor June Parson at the October 4, 2010 City Council meeting A large sign is the most economical fix to one of the relatively rare problems of GPS routing systems. This one, on Mapquest, seems to be symptomatic more of the mapping service than of the technology. -CM

I would like to comment on the problem of the erroneous directions that drivers are receiving when they are trying to reach our school addresses.

They are being directed to leave Greensburg Street and to turn onto Dillon Street.

ACHS Boys Golf team in State Tournament today

The Adair County High School Boys Golf Team begin their quest for a state title today, Friday, October 8, 2010, at 11:30amCT, at Bowling Green Country Club, 251 Beech Bend RD, Bowling Green, KY.

The boys will be playing along side State powerhouses Lexington Henry Clay and St. Mary's.

Tee times are as follows:

Schedule of Street Closings for Downtown Days, Folklore of Old West
Here is a a list of streets and approximate times when the Square will be shutting down on Friday, October 8, 2010 for Downtown Days and Folklore of the Old West:
  • 12pm Noon CT: All corners of the Square will be roped off.
  • 2:30pmCT: Burkesville Street will be closed from Fortune Street crossing to the Square
  • 3pmCT: to as late as 4pmCT, Greensburg ST at Monroe Crossing, Jamestown ST at Reed ST crossing, and Campbellsville ST at Merchant/Reed Crossing will be closed so that the vendors will be able to set up booths for 4pmCT Festival opening. These streets will remain closed until late Saturday night
