The Lindsey Wilson College community will honor one of the greatest graduates in the college's 107-year history and one of Kentucky's legendary tennis players at two ceremonies on Friday, October 8, 2010.

The Elizabeth Lowe Whitfield House of Student Financial Services, 305 Lindsey Wilson St., will be dedicated at 11amCT, then the Henry Baughman Tennis Complex will be dedicated at 3pmCT. Both ceremonies are open to the public.

The funeral service will be at H.E. Pruitt Memory Chapel, 202 N. Main ST, Jamestown, KY, at 2pmCT,, on Sunday, October 10, with Bro. Casey Davis officiating. Burial will be in Jamestown Cemetery, Jamestown, KY. Visitation will be Saturday, October 9, 1991, after 5pmCT, at the funeral home.

He was a grocery merchant and member of the Cowdens Chapel Church.

Kenneth Grider, 87, of Liberty, KY, died Saturday October 2, 2010 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, in Danville, KY.

Funeral services were October 5, 2010 at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, 752 Campbellsville ST, Liberty, KY, by Bro. Jamie Bryant. Burial was in the Casey County Memorial Gardens.

Kentucky students are urged to walk or bike to school

Frankfort, KY Gov. Steve Beshear has proclaimed October "Walk to School Month" in Kentucky, part of his initiative to support healthy lifestyles and provide opportunities for children to safely walk and bike to school.

"This month is designated for families, schools and communities to work together to create safe routes for walking and bicycling for our students," said Gov. Beshear. "It emphasizes the importance of physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, traffic congestion and concerns for the environment."

KSP executes warrant charging Phillip Cape with attempted murder

Columbia, KY. - Kentucky State Police Detective Mike Dubree has obtained an arrest warrant for Phillip Cape charging him with the attempted murder of Brandy Lawless. The warrant was executed today at the Intensive Care Unit of the UK Medical Center where Cape remains in custody and in stable condition.The arrest grows out of an incident Sunday afternoon, October 3, 2010, on Melson Ridge RD. KSP offers tips to avoid deer collisions this fall

Thanks to more careful driving, traffic accidents are down dramatically in the Kentucky State Police Post 15 area. This is the time of year when most deer related accidents occur. deer-vehicle collisions can be avoided with defensive driving techniques listed below.

AARP Driver Safety Program at Metcalfe Library, Oct. 19, 2010

Metcalfe County Library, 200 S Main ST, Edmonton, KY, is sponsoring an AARP driver safety program on, October 19, 2010, from 9am to 1pmCT.

The 4/Hr Course is designed to meet the needs of older drivers (50+) and covers age-related physical changes, declining perceptual skills, rules of the road, and local driving problems (no test).

Automobile Insurance Companies in Kentucky are required to provide a premium discount to graduates of the course.

Cost of the program is $12 per person for AARP members (must have member card) and $14 per person for non-members. To pre-register please call the Metcalfe Co. Library, (270) 432-4981 or Rick Cranford, (270) 565-4077.

Benefit Auction for Larry White, Sat. Oct. 9, 2010

There will be a Benefit Auction for Larry (Mooneyes) White at the Christian Life Center, 901 Hudson ST, Columbia, KY, Saturday, October 9, 2010 with events including: Cake walk at 1pmCT; Gospel Singing, 2pmCT,also there will be chilli, hot dogs, vegetable soup and desserts at 2pmCT, and at 4pmCT, the Auction Begins. Auction there will be a 50/50 and a $100.00 Walmart gift card to be raffled. Larry fell off his house roof on August 21, 2010 and fractured 3 vertabrae in his back and fractured his hip and pelvic bone. He has a long road of recovery ahead of him.
