A wonderful and amazing woman

About: Obituary: Catherine Frodge 65, Adair Co., KY

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

I was so sorry to hear of the passing of this wonderful and amazing woman. Catherine Frodge was my friend for over 30 years. She was a very hard working mother who raised two fine boys and faced so much adversity. I never heard her complain and she always seemed happy with the simple pleasures she enjoyed. To Wendel and Dean: Like me, you were very fortunate to have such a fine mother. I shall miss her.

By Tom Waggener

Spirits were high with the onset of true fall weather at pie Sunday today. Pie Sunday is a Shelby County Waggener tradition in which the elder Waggener and his wife make a fine feast and the younger Waggener's wife makes a pie; in the today's case, the dessert was phoned in and a fine gelato from Kroger was bought, instead.

The nephs in high spirits

Graham and Evan were in high spirits since Graham had just gotten a new bike and Evan inherited Graham's old bike. Both got blue and green blinky lights as well, although Evan's was lost on the 2 mile car trip home from the bike store.

A suggestion to let all who wish have a part in preservation

About: Preservation is for future generations

By Richard Raines

Does anyone remember churches having (what we called) a penny march? Some still have them. The idea was not to have someone put in large amounts of money, just pocket change or an occasional dollar bill or two.

The money might not be very much for one Sunday, but different churches would use the money for different purposes (as an offering for the home for children, missions, building fund, youth activities, etc)

However, over a period of time, this little dab here and there added up to enough to do something. I know that almost everyone's money is tight right now, and there are very few people who could contribute a large amount of money toward courthouse restoration/preservation. But if some individual or group could step up to the plate and oversee collection containers in the community, I believe that most people could (at least occasionally) contribute a little bit to the fund - even if it is just a little pocket change. It might not amount to much, but a little h!here and a little there would eventually add up.

Our community sends quite a bit of money to the Crusade for Children, and Relay for Life each year, not to mention money contributed for other causes. We helped the Adair County Band raise money to go to New York City last Thanksgiving, and members of the community chipped in to help Lindsey Wilson College buy Pinewood.

Our courthouse is a majestic old building. One or two people cannot save this building from going down or restore it to the grandeur it deserves, but if we all pull together, we can manage to stabilize it and hopefully restore it.-Richard Raines

It easy to get more people to your events using CM

Get greater attendance at your Events.
Send Events information early. Include complete information in our format and style. ALWAYS include Street Number and ST, otherwise it's an ad Send all information in one email. ALWAYS include just in case contact information. POSTERS or FLYERS are ads. There is seldom time to compose an events story from a flyer or post. But posters on CM as advertising are very Cost Effective! Great to use in addition to free publicity. (270) 250-2730 for more information.

Almost any time we compare CM Events against a year ago, there's an increase in events postings of 50% and more. Many busy people tell us Events is the first item they check each day.

The reason is that CM Events are presented in an easy to scan, easy to understand, brief, format with the information one needs in today's world to attend the event at the reader's fingertips.

Events are posted free, subject to editing, in a minimum 5-Part Publicity package which is FREE if Street Number/Street is included in the submission.

If charged at commercial rates, the 5-Part-Package would start at $38.85, going up to as much as $100 and up, for multi-day events.

Posting the 5-Part Events announcement is relatively complicated. The Free Service is possible if the submissions arrive as early as possible before the event, if they arrive in our format, and if all information necessary is included in ONE E-MAIL.

Most submissions which fit our format and policy are posted within minutes or hours. But if you experience problems it may be because a submission is incomplete or needs changes. We'll contact you if contact information is included: Phone numbers or emails are best. Call if you have questions: (270) 250-2730. -EW.

Is it advertising? If the event utilizes paid advertising anywhere, through any media, it's advertising on CM.
