Goldenrod acquitted of charge of sneeze and sniffle mongering Anything this pretty can't be bad About: Wildflowers of Kentucky State flower Goldenrod By Barbara Armitage Poor Goldenrod always gets a bum rap. It is often blamed for another's misdeeds. That nasty plant that makes so many of us sniffle and sneeze is actually Ragweed and not the beautiful Goldenrod. Goldenrod is a very desirable wildflower because of its spectacular yellow flowers that bloom in late summer and fall. They are also great attractors of wildlife, especially butterflies. Some Goldenrod species are even used in making medicines. Barbara Armitage, for the defense Thanks. Our phone at CM is ringing off the hook wanting to know if there are any good Goldenrod wine recipes out there? If it really has to be frozen, then thawed and skimmed before it is potable? -CM 2010-08-16 11:28:16 | Comments | Printable version

Confessions of an amateur photographer The case of the faux doe. Sometimes mind and eye sync in subtle, deceptive ways Click on headline for the whole story, with photographic evidence By Johnietta Jessie As you know, all amateur photographers are always excited at the prospect of a truly one of a kind photo. Sunday morning I was out driving around looking for some good photos, I decided to drive down to Metcalfe Co. Lake and Sportmans Club. I rolled down my window, turned on the camera and took off the lens cap ready to shoot if I saw some turkeys or deer. As I came around a curve, I saw a doe lying in the grass looking at me and I just about lost my breath. I picked up the camera and with my zoom lens I focused on the deer. She did not move and so I thought I would ease my car forward a few more feet. Again I focused the camera and embarassingly I realized the doe was really a fake one. The sportsman's club was evidently having an archery event Sunday, and had set up the deer for the event. -Johnnietta 2010-08-16 06:46:19 | Comments | Printable version
