Tiger Prayer Ministry developed by four CU Servant Leaders

Campbellsville, KY - Four Campbellsville University freshmen launched a prayer ministry for students and faculty at CU hoping to turn a class assignment into something that will help others for much longer than just the duration of one semester.

The stated purpose of the Tiger Prayer Ministry (TPM) is "to glorify God by simply being his hands and feet to the campus." The students said the main goal of TPM is for no one ever to feel alone.

Columbia, KY, NP wins award toward IU doctorate

News from Campbellsville University

Nurse Practitioner Beverly Rowland, Columbia, KY, an instructor in nursing at Campbellsville University, has been awarded the Kathryn M. Mershon Nursing Faculty Scholarship.

The award was presented at at the Kentucky League for Nursing annual meeting. The meeting was May 13-14, 2010 at General Butler State Resort Park in Carrolton, KY.

Rowland has served in her position at Campbellsville University since 2007. She also served as interim dean of the School of Nursing at Campbellsville University.

Rowland and her husband, David, have two grown sons, Bob and Kyle, and two grandsons, Kaiden and Noah.

The scholarship is an award toward her doctoral studies at Indiana University School of Nursing in Indianapolis, IN.

There was a bit more excitement one recent Wednesday morning here north of the Green River than a rheumy-eyed, weak-kneed, crotchety old fellow like me might want. Our neighbors Kane & Delly (two of the Truly Good People of the world) have been live trapping and relocating a colony of feral cats, and my mother-in-law's daughter and I have been giving what assistance we can to their efforts.

ACMS Cheerleaders raise $930 with fundraiser

The Adair County Middle School Cheerleader Boosters raised $930 yesterday, Monday, August 2, 2010, in a fundraiser at Fiesta Mexico, according to a spokesperson for the group, Sandra VanArsdale. The group is raising money to pay for travel expenses this year.

Hottest summer in 60 years
expected to continue into August


News from Western Kentucky University

Bowling Green, KY - One of the hottest summers in nearly 60 years looks like it will continue into August, according to the Kentucky Climate Center at Western Kentucky University.

Even though no record highs were set and no days topped 100 degrees, the number of days in June and July with afternoon highs of 90 degrees or above was three times the number from 2009 and the highest since 1952, according to a monthly climate summary prepared by Dr. Greg Goodrich.

Columbians woke up this morning with a new police chief. Sgt. Jason Cross was sworn in to succeed Chief Mark Harris, who resigned to devote full time to his campaign for Mayor of Columbia.

The action took place at the regular August meeting of the Columbia City Council, Monday, August 2, 2010.

All members of the Columbia Police Department were present, in a dramatic show of unity for the new chief and as a show of deep respect for outgoing Chief Mark Harris.
