Walter and Katherine Smith celebrating
51st Anniversary in Adair County, KY


Couple was married in Fairplay, July 30, 1959, and have lived in Mooresville, IN, since 1964.

Walter Bennett and the former Katherine Smith will be celebrating their 51st anniversary in Columbia on Friday, July 30, 2010 with family. The Bennetts were born and raised in Columbia and were married in Fairplay on July 30,1959.

They both have family living in Columbia. Mrs. Bennett's mother. Frances Smith is a resident at Summit Manor and will be 90 years young this year.The Bennetts have three children and seven grandchildren. Their grandson Dustin Cagle is accompaying the Bennett's on their trip to Columbia. The Bennetts now live in Mooresville, IN, and have lived there since1964. -Alice Smith Robinson

Frankfort, KY - Join our staff and members of the Frankfort Fly Fishing Club to learn the basic techniques of fly tying and fly fishing at the Salato Wildlife Education Center, 1 Sportsman's LN, Frankfort, KY, from 10am-4pmET/9am-3pmCT, Saturday, August 7, 2010.

Have you ever caught a fish on a woolly bugger or a popper? We will provide the necessary equipment for you to try your hand at tying flies. You can keep the flies that you make, too. We can also help anglers hone their skills with casting a fly rod. The cost of the class is $35 with registration required.

Obituary: Leon Bledsoe, 68, Adair County, KY

Mr. Bledsoe was a member of a large, respected South Adair Co., KY family.He was the son of the late Norman and Jewell Antle Bledsoe His wife Carolyn Ann Westmoreland Bledsoe

Leon Bledsoe age 68 years of the Cundiff Community in Adair County passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at his home after an illness.

Remembering Dana Garrett Bradshaw: A friend for over 30 years

In 1973 our family of three moved from Washington, DC (after having spent six years in West Africa) to the quiet little community of Marrowbone. Dana and Edwin Bradshaw made sure that we never felt like "foreigners" or "outsiders."

We enjoyed their love and friendship for the next 30 years.

Glenda, Brenda, Debbie and Stuart, I want you to know that I shall always be grateful to your parents/grandparents for this friendship.

He was a member of a respected Russell Co., KY family and of the Pine Top Church of Christ. He was a retired forklift operator and was a veteran of the U.S. Army

Alden M. Johnson, 77, Hwy 910, Russell Springs, KY, died Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at his residence.

The funeral service will be Saturday, July 31, 2010, at 10amCT, at Bernard Funeral Home Chapel, 367 Main ST, Russell Springs, KY, with Mack Stephens, Jerry Dennison, and Tommy Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery. Visitation will be after 5pmCT, Friday, July 30, 2010, at the funeral home.

AC Edge softball sends thanks. Fundraiser successful

Over 400 Ribeye Sandwich lunches were delivered

The AC Edge 16 & under Softball team members, coaches and parents would like to thank everyone who purchased a steak sandwich lunch on Friday, July 23. Travel: Closure on KY 48 near High Grove, Nelson Co., KY

ELIZABETHTOWN,KY. (July 28, 2010) A section of KY 48 near High Grove, in Nelson County, will be closed beginning Monday, August 2, 2010.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is scheduled to replace a culvert about a mile east of U.S. 31E. Engineers expect the project to take seven to 10 days to complete, until approximately August 7-8, 2010, under favorable weather conditions.

Columbia cyclist flown to UL after crash in Marion Co., KY

Lebanon, KY - A collision occurred on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at 9:45pmET on KY 84. Raymond Dillingham, age 45, of Columbia, KY, was operating a 1976 Kawasaki Motorcycle eastbound when he lost control of the motorcycle and overturned.

Dillingham was transported to Springview Hospital, Lebanon, KY, and then was flown to U of L Hospital, Louisville, KY, for treatment of non life threatening injuries. Trooper Donnie Moses is investigating.

High on the Ridge o'er Beautiful Downtown Knifley, KY -Well, finally! Mz Armitage has cast the day's worries and frets from my poor addled head. I''ve been cogitating the whole of the day trying to figure what this CST, EST and DST was all about but now it's been properly ciphered.

Here at Dun Roman (high on the ridge) when my eyes open of a morn then I knows its time to get out of the Cot. Come the evening time when I can't hold my eyes open any longer then I knows it's time to get back in the Cot. Reckon that's C-time or Cot time.
