Great Time Controversy:
Wants to keep feeling of going back in time

About: Wonders if Adair Co KY should go on Eastern Time

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Stay on Central Time. Otherwise that feeling of going back in time when entering Adair from Taylor would be lost. Going the other way: It's like the movie "Back to the Future."s/Rick Caldwell

Great Time Controversy:
Eric Goodin says GO EASTERN

About: Wonders if Adair Co KY should go on Eastern Time

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

I am all for going to the Eastern Time Zone. We touch two counties already that are Eastern Time, we are much further east than some counties that are on Eastern Time, yet here we are in Central.

It would give us much needed longer sunlight hours that would help farmers get things done in a more timely fashion, you would have more time after work to enjoy the sunshine, etc etc.

I know some are going to bring up the winter time and how the kids will be waiting for the schoolbus in the dark. They already do in some areas of the county. I say GO EASTERN.

Great Time Controversy:
Kids already get up early enough

About: Reader sees both sides of Great Time Controversy

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Why would anyone want to even think about such a change. Our children already get up early enough. I think it is a bad idea. We already live in a fast pace world as it is. If others want to leave their clocks on eastern time, so do it. Just don't expect everyone else to follow pursuit.

I am comfortable the way things are and I too say leave it alone, I already work on fast time but live central. If we went fast time would we not have to get up 2 hrs. early instead of 1?

Yes, there would be a lot of confusion.

Let's think of the children for once and not ourselves. Just a reminder many Campbellsville and Taylor residents still think that Columbia is on their time.

Great Time Controversy: Just 3 important times

About: Wonders if Adair Co KY should go on Eastern Time

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Here at Tucker's Station we live IN Central Time and ON Eastern Time. I have never had a problem juggling the two.

I learned a long time ago that there are only three times you need to worry about anyway. Time to get up. Time to eat. Time to go to bed.

We Adair Countains can multi-task! Let's have a glass of wine and quit worrying about clocks.

The Great Time Controversy, through the pen of a poet

Time Zone CardBy Billy Joe Fudge
Oh what a tangled web we weave
When we do seek to go ET.
Schedules are always and ever hard
Even without the Time Zone Card.

Cumberland, Metcalfe, Green and Russell
Now contribute to our bustle;
So let us not to them offend
And Taylor will remain our friend.
Thanks, forester-philosopher, for finally rendering poetic clarification on the subject. -CM

About: Letter: Thinks Adair Co. should have Eastern time

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Please, please, please stop the talk of Eastern time zone. It is perfect the way it is. When I need to come visit, I have an hour to spare. I can sleep an extra hour and still be on time to any family event.

I will agree that I lose an hour going back home to louisville, but, it is worth it to get the hour on the front end.

So, please stop the talk before it gets serious.

Almost 10,300 trained at the Technical Training Center

In a bleak moment in the history of South Central Kentucky, the sudden closing of the Fruit of the Loom plant and subsequent 30% unemployment in the community, Campbellsville University stepped in to fill an intellectual and spiritual need, and the Technology Training Center (TTC) was created. Today, TTC is helping transform the South Central KY economy into a technology driven one.

Great Time Controversy: Another vote for ET

Might take matters into own hands, and observe Eastern time; says it feels better in the morning
See also: Wonders if Adair Co KY should go on Eastern Time

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

With lots of mingling in Campbellsville, here's another vote for Eastern. Plus, due to the sunlight factor in the morning, Eastern time just feels better. In fact, I am considering keeping our clocks on Eastern when the time changes in the fall even though we live in Adair County. I don't know how well that'll work, but I might give it a try.

Great Time Controversy: Is reason for CT arbitrary?

About: Wonders if Adair Co KY should go on Eastern Time

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:
Several years ago I asked the same question, "Can Adair Co. be on EST"? At that time, I was given an explanation (I don't know if it is true.) about why we are on CST. It seems that an arbitary time was set to determine when the sun rose in each county. The sun rose 1 minute after that arbitary time in Adair County, therefore we are stuck with Central Time. Go figure.

Hattie's father was my Great Uncle, Maurice Taylor Clark. Uncle Taylor was a brother to my Grandfather William C. Clark , (Billy). Uncle Taylor built the house where we all lived; you can still see his initials in both brick chimneys he built - on one chimney his initials are upside down!
