Proud of Job Jobe does

About: Road crew out twice during MondayTuesday night

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Just want to say I am proud of my brother in law Jobe Darnell.

He has never walked away from hard work. Up early everyday and out late lots of nights.

He takes a lot of pride in his work. His statement sounds just like him; doesn't matter that he had been working all night; he had a days work ahead to do, and was ready to get it done. Love it.

Coach Graves: A great coach, a great man

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

I wanted to publicly say how lucky we are as a community to have Coach Graves as the Adair County High School Football Coach. Not only is he a great coach, but he is a great man.

If one is to lead by example, Coach Graves is the best coach in the state, and Adair County is lucky to have him.

His latest gesture of teamwork was yesterday when he brought the Adair County Marching Band Gatorade during band camp.

The band and the football team under Coach Graves leadership have forged a bond of school spirit and mutual respect!

We are grateful for the dedication of Coach Graves as well as Adair County Band Director Tom Case as they work together to create an ADAIR we can all be proud of, not only on the fields, but off.

Thanks for all you do, Coach Graves!

Road crew out twice during Monday/Tuesday night

By Ed Waggener

There were some trees downed by the storm Monday night, July 19, 2010, keeping some of the Adair County Road Department out all night.Judge Ann Melton went to the 911 Center at 7:30pmCT, last night, when the first call, that a tree was down in the Knifley area, was logged. "I stayed until 9 o'clock," she said, "and thought it was over, and went home," she said.

But County Roads Superintendent Jobe Darnell said that he received a call after he had returned home that a large tree was down across Sulpher Creek RD (District 1 in Northeast Adair County). The job was so big that a backhoe was needed, and Mitchell Rooks was called in to help.

That obstruction was not removed until sometime between 3am and 4am this morning, July 20, 2010. "Jobe said that when he got back to the county highway garage, and saw what time it was," he decided it was 'almost time to go to work,' so he just stayed," Judge Melton said.

Major greenery is needed in Downtown Columbia, KY

A suggestion to soften the harsh expanses

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

We do need to give some serious thought to getting some major greenery downtown.

I have seen some cities using HUGE pots with trees and/or large shrubs planted.

Hopefully the Courthouse committee will fully explore the possibilities for that space.
