Neatsville Bridge on Green River good for bass, bluegill

About: Questions Fishing the Green River

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

There used to be some decent Bass and Bluegill around the Neatsville bridge area. We always found if the fish weren't biting, it was still a good swimming hole! Then again, that was a little over 25 years ago!

Birds of Kentucky: Canada Geese at Attention

2010-07-14 - Lake Shelby - Photo by Pen. Shelby Co., KY
Something seems to have caught the attention of these Canada Geese, but it wasn't the photographer. The wild birds are more commonly seen, these days, and are becoming almost tame. In some developed areas, their numbers can become a nuisance; in others, a happy addition to parks and outdoor areas.

Fishing: Expert advice on fishing the Green River

About: Questions: Fishing the Green River The following answers one of the questions: "Would a fisherman be able to fish the Green River in a 15 1/2 foot fiberglass open fisherman and 60 horsepower outboard without constant fear of ruining a propeller">

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Not above the lake. The river is too shallow in many spots to use a 60 hp motor. A 12 ft jon boat without a motor has to be dragged over some areas. Been there, done that.

When swashbuckling became a Lindsey Wilson tradition

By Martha Berry

All of this discussion of Raider Bob brings to mind my nephew, when he was a student at LWC, sometimes in the 1960's, if my memory serves me right.

He would appear at the LWC ballgames wearing a swashbuckling hat and sword, ala Raider Bob, much to the embarrassment of his dear Aunt (me), and would stand at the end of the floor nearly under the baskets and swashbuckle all during the game. Now he would be right in style!! Shades of Erroll Flynn!! -Martha Berry

Saw pirate instantly in face on the Tower

About: http://www.columbiamagazine.com/photoarchive.php?photo_id=35946

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

When my husband and I pulled up to Walmart today, coming in by the Good Will Store, I ask him to look at the picture on the water tank and tell me what it was he saw and he said , "A pirate."My husband hasn't been involved in this dicussion on Raider Bob and didn't know that Lindsey Wilson mascot was Raider Bob.

We are not from here and have only lived here four years.

What I am trying to say is that if he saw a man in the picture then all is not lost, some people actually see a Raider there.

A letter. And a CM apology

To Daniel Wilson: ColumbiaMagazine is wrong. We've been interpreting criticism of painting of Raider Bob as criticism of Raider Bob himself. It wasn't. It was merely a suggestion for an improvement of the image. who offered critical comment on the stylized image of Raider Bob on the side of the water tank at Holladay place. What one - maybe all - are saying is simply that this particular image is not one they like, not that they don't like Raider Bob, himself. Dan Wilson explained:
I don't mean take all the Raider Bob off ... I did some editing on the picture with my idea and it has the graphics removed in front of his face...NOT the complete removal of Raider Bob. Could you clarify this on CM?
Note what I did to edit his picture.

Thanks
s/Daniel WilsonThanks for the explanation, Daniel Wilson. Please accept our apologies. We've cut down the erroneous intrepretation of his earlier letter on the subject. We're so relieved is that Mr. Wilson's statement is only a criticism of the art, not the subject. That he's not, to use a parallel interpretation, speaking ill of Abraham Lincoln himself, but giving a frank criticism of Gutzon and Lincoln Borglum's rendering of the Hodgenvillian's image at Mt. Rushmore with annotations on how it could have been better. Go Blue Raiders.. -Ed Waggener

Questions: Fishing the Green River

To the CM All-Knowing, All Things Piscatorial Dept.:

Would a fisherman be able to fish the Green River in a 15 1/2 foot fiberglass open fisherman and 60 horsepower outboard without constant fear of ruining a propeller? Where would be a great place to launch near Columbia? What fish varieties would he be likely to catch? Are local guides available?

s/Charles Marshburn

Answers: 1) Yes. 2) If you already have your beer, launching in Adair County would be best. If you still have to buy beer, Taylor is closer. 3) Up to guide. 4) Owing to how and where you fish. Crappie. Catfish. Muskellunge. Casey Co. 'Sammons.' Gar. 5) Yes. Additional advice for the questioner is welcome. -CM

Farm Market Update: Big price drop expected today

Matins reminder: Thanks for the morning. For cheap tomatoes. For Eddie Compton's rosanears.

By Ed Waggener

Jake Willis, the producer who pretty well sets the commodity price pace for the crop in Adair County announced last evening, Tuesday, July 13, 2010, that he is planning a huge price drop on tomatoes today. "Everything in this building will be half price. They're a $1 a pound now. They are going to be 50 cents a pound tomorrow."

Whether the drop will be that precipitous or not remains to be seen.

New shoppers should also be reminded that, while Adair County Homegrown Tomatoes have a value several times the price now being paid, prudent buyers should always study the market.
