Daniel Wilson suggests more blue paint

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

I have a fix for the Raider Head problem. All they need is more blue paint. It took me a minute to figure out what it was I was looking at. My idea is the fix. What do you think, Ed?

s/Daniel Wilson

Thanks for your comments, but I'm on the other side. Huge Raider Bob fan. When the new big letters get put up there on the tank, everything is going to be just fine. Ed

Great Progress being made on bridge over Sulphur Creek

2010-07-13 - Photo by Ed Waggener. Sulpher Creek RD, District 1, Adair Co., KY
Good progress is being made on the bridge over Sulphur Creek on Sulpher Creek RD in Adair County District 1, between Ella and The Millerfields. Adair County Judge Ann Melton said that based on her observations and those of Adair County RD Superintendent Jobe Darnell the new bridge will be open in as little as four weeks. "We'd really like to have it ready by August 4, when school opens, Judge Melton said, "but that that can't be guaranteed at this time. The main thing is to build it right - make sure it's safe for everybody when we do reopen the road."

Writer says legalized sales would bring many improvements

About: Totally disagrees on legalizing alchohol sales

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

An analysis of the budget of a community/county with legalized alcohol and the revenue from the taxes would find many improvements made community wide, from improving the schools to updating buildings and roads/sewers.

It also brings in business and tourism and increases the value of real estate.

Totally disagrees on legalizing alchohol sales

About: Curry agrees with legal wet vs. illegal wet

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

I totally disagree with legalizing alcohol sales, I understand that if you want it bad enough you can get it, but the same old arguments just don't make sense, if it did then you could use the same argument for legalizing marijuana, crack cocaine, meth where do we stop? And what kind of benefits has ever been brought in by the taxes from the sale of alcohol? Take a look at Celina, TN. If they are going to do it then I guess they will find a way but we don't have to make it easy for them!

s/Mary Ann Burns

Obviously it would take a plumb fool to legalize crack cocaine. Won't comment on the rest of your statement, but glad you mentioned Celina, TN, one of my favorite places on earth. Good people. Good town. Good Barbecue. Good Food. Good churches. Lots of history. Gorgeous scenery. All that and the Free Hills, Dale Hollow Dam. The Seven Sisters. Cordell Hull's First Law office. The one time home of Bill Fisk's Bugle. Don't know if alcohol has anything to do with it, one way or another, but Celina sure is a great town.--Ed Waggener

M.E. Lewis ask more questions, comments on fair ticket prices

About: Says prices to fair are set by carnival, not Jaycees

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Something doesn't seem right about that. They aren't bringing the food booths in are they? Isn't that local groups? How much of the stuff is brought in by the carnival people? Why do they control the price at the gate? Why don't they have wrist bands for the rides and let that be a set price and then let those of us who want to go and eat and enjoy the atmosphere of the fair pay a smaller price.s/M.E. S.R. Curry agrees with legal wet vs. illegal wet

Agrees with letter from Ralph Waggener that Adair County is wet - illegally wet now. Why not have the rule of law in alcholic beverage sales. "Campbellsville...is moist, and . .. I can honestly say that the entire town has not become the city of depravity that was predicted by some," letter writer S.R. Curry says

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

I agree with Mr. Ralph Waggener it does make more common sense to have legal sales of alcohol, along with the control and tax benefits, rather than the ever present illegal sales of alcohol with absolutely no control or tax benefit for this area.

The way things stand today, with illegal sales< a mere child of twelve can pull up to the bootleggers on a bicycle and pick up a pint of liquor because there is no reason to request age verification. All that is required is money for liquor.

Fishing: Angling under the Lights On

By Scott Moore

News from Kentucky Afield, KY Fish & Wildlife

When baseball goes into extra innings, a late night can become an early morning. The same is true for catfishing. The play-by-play is on "Kentucky Afield" television this weekend, July 17 and 18, 2010.

In the shadow of the Cincinnati skyline, host Tim Farmer takes a swing at late night Ohio River catfish action. This isn't the first all-nighter for guide Dale Broughton. Plenty of caffeine and fresh live bait make for an exciting event for these boys of summer.
