Fireworks photo from Fugitte is more: It is art

About: Fireworks Show 2010 from Fugitte Science Center photo by Duane Bonifer

By Billy Joe Fudge

Earth, wind and fire; this is not just a photo but art.

Shadows, both bright and placid beckon us to be there.

The darkness beyond is somewhat intimidating but not menacing.

Smoke, fog and light divide the night asunder, conjoin the moods aplenty, calm the hecticity and hint of the supernatural.

The night's activities at a standstill yet full of movement, sound, smell and memory.

This photo is a painting which speaks eternal volumes about us.

What can I say more than, "Americana personified"?

Fireworks looked like little UFOs in Duane Bonifer photos

About: Fireworks Show from top of the Fugitte Science Center LWC

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

I went to the slide show (Duane Bonifer photos) of the fireworks and went to 200% magnification on the screen. It was really, really, good magnified.

You could see some strange things in the pictures. Some looked like little UFO's flying around. I'm sorry that I missed the fireworks show now.

Maybe I will make it next year.

Wonder about American Flag finale absence

Hey Ed,

Is it just me or isn't the fireworks ended each year with an American Flag?

I guess we will lose this tradition also.

Kentucky Color: Red Tailed Hawks

Man changes their environment, but these birds are able to put the change to good use.
Click on headline for story plus photo

By Billy Joe Fudge

Red Tailed Hawks are opportunistic raptors, taking advantage of situations created by humans in very interesting ways.

I saw two Red Tailed Hawks adapting their hunting technique to human activity recently in Taylor Co., KY. Each had its own perch atop two rolls of hay in a recently mown meadow.

It offered a great opportunity for a meal and the rolls of hay were a perfect perch from which to search.

A farmer in the Loretta Community of Marion County told me about a Red Tail that hitches a ride atop his combine during the soybean harvest each year. Apparently the hunter was in hoping to do a little harvesting of his own.

A photo of that would have been great, but life was a lot more difficult BD (Before Digital). These young folks don't know how good they have it compared to the olden days back 10 or 15 years ago. -Billy Joe Fudge
