Buddy the part beagle is double winner.
He's found. Has new forever home

About: Missing dog: Buddy is missing in Sparksville area

Dear Ed and staff,

We found our beagle, Buddy, in record time. I placed the ad at noontime and by 3:00 someone called to say they had found him. Even better - they adopted him! So I guess Buddy went out on his own to find a forever home. I can't thank you enough. I've never gotten such fast results.

News from Kentucky Secretary of State's office

FRANKFORT, KY - Tens of thousands of Kentuckians will be "voting in honor of a veteran" this spring, and there is still time for individuals to sign up to participate in the program before the May 18, 2010 primary election. The Vote in Honor of a Veteran program is an initiative sponsored by the Office of Secretary of State Trey Grayson.

"The enthusiasm for this voting initiative is simply overwhelming," remarked Secretary of State Trey Grayson. "I am especially delighted for those veterans who deserve this honor and recognition. Their sacrifice protects our democratic process. Although we will never be able to repay them for their efforts, this is a small way that we can give tribute to their service for our country."

Adair Countian beyond the river wants to send check to A-Team

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

To this old ridgerunner who spent eight of his happiest years in high school, the incredible accomplishments of the Adair County A-Teams transcend comprehension - so much so that I am willing to open my closely-held purse strings to make a contribution to the travel fund.

Without a doubt, there are others among the sizable contingent of CM readers who live a considerable distance from the auld sod of Adair who feel the same.

I would request that CM, in each post concerning the A-Teams, provide a mailing address to where travel fund contributions may be sent by we Adair Countians who live beyond the river.

Thanks,

s/Jim

Wonderful! We just happen to have the information needed to send all the money your closely-held purse can spare!

Letter: Father in WWII

Joanne Hadley Persinger writes:
I can't tell you how moved I was to see the name of my father, Lurner G. Hadley, listed as an Adair County native who had served in World War II. Thank you so very, very much.

Joanne, Thanks very much for the kind words. And many, many thanks to all the readers who help us maintain the list of Adair County Veterans through their research and submissions.

Coach Reliford's compelling statement for A-teams support

The following letter was delivered to Mayor Patrick Bell and Members of the Columbia City Council: Edwin Taylor, Joe Moore, June Parson, Charles Grimsley, Craig Dean, and Linda Waggener at the group's historic meeting on May 3, 2010. It is reprinted here in the hopes that citizens will encourage quick response from the Council - as urged by Councillor Craig Dean at the Monday meeting. We would hope that similar action follow from the Adair Fiscal Court, and for the Adair County School Board to match their efforts and allow these brilliant students to conclude fundraising and prepare for the trip and the competition. We also hope Mr. Reliford's letter will encourage institutions, businesses, candidates and office holders, and caring individuals everywhere to send their financial support -CM

Members of the City Council:

For an astounding fourth year in a row, both the high school quiz bowl team and the school district's Future Problem Solving teams have qualified for competition against some of the best minds around the globe.
