Flooding, May 2, 2010: Water overflows The Cut, Knob Lick, KY

2010-05-04 - Photo by Becca Neal. The Cut, Metcalfe Co., KY
A familiar landmark known to locals as "The Cut" did not escape rising waters of the past weekend. The Cut refers to a narrow passage cut through solid rock in a bluff overlooking the South Fork of the Little Barren River near Knob Lick. The photo shows water covering the floor which is several feet above the river.

This passage has been in existence for so long no one remembers it's reason for being there nor who was responsible for all the long hard labor it took to cut through the cliff. One of the stories associated with the passage held that it was built by Indians, another was that a mill once stood there and the passage was cut for access to water. Somehow neither story seems likely. -Story by Geneice Marcum for photo by Becca Neal.

About: Billy Whitney Hatcher RDs bridge will be ambitious project

I think this is a project that needs to be looked at harder. My mom and dad both have heart problems and there are others on the Clay Ridge side of Russell Creek with bad health problems. A bridge on Hatcher Road would not only save time to get to town, but could save a life.
