Wants kittens to live in barn: I'd like to find a couple of kittens or very young cats to live in my barn and eat mice. I want young ones because I have poultry that runs all over and would like to teach them not to eat the birds - an older cat may not do as well being put out with chickens and ducks to chase. Likes symbolic photo on wet-dry vote by John E. Moss

About: Symbolic Picture of the wet-dry vote in Jamestown, KY

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Thanks for posting this picture.

To Mr.Moss: This photo is priceless.

It speaks volumes. Great job!

Thanks.

s/Ben Briscoe

Thanks. We liked the photographic quality and timeliness of the picture, as well as its levels of ambiguity: Deadly serious to the temperance folks, but with a bit of humor for those on the other side; it was almost Nationesque in its hyperbole, with slippery slope elements reaching beyond the issues in the actual vote. -EW

100 years ago, March 16, 1910 in The News

Stories in the paper show Columbia as exciting in 1910 as now:
  • The James Boys (from Cane Valley, KY) drew large crowd
  • Story of successful operation on Mr. Mont Cravens to remove gravel
  • A millinery shop opened within Russell & Co
  • Halley's Comet was visible
  • A display in Reed Hardware Company was the talk of the town
  • And My-Cola was Columbia's beverage of choice

By Jim

There was something for just about everyone on the front page of the March 16, 1910 edition of the News - outlaws, operations, dressed windows, window dressing (bonnets), a comet, and, of course, a refreshing bottle of My-Cola.
The James Boys

"The James Boys in Missouri" drew an immense crowd to the court auditorium last Saturday evening, every seat being filled. It is a play mastered by Cane Valley talent, each actor rendering his or her part in a faultless manner. All the male cast members were dressed as outlaws, each act giving a fair picture of western life. Bingham Moore made a fine Jesse James, and Mrs. Tom Moore, who acted the part of Jesse's wife, played her part to perfection. T.I. Smith, as Bob Ford, killed his old friend and comrade Jesse James. There were many other exciting scenes, each performer deserving special notice, but their names are not before us...

Households in Adair County should have received their 2010 Census in the mail, I would like to encourage each resident to take the time, approximately 10 minutes, to fill out the Census and mail it back in.

I would like to challenge the residents to respond at a higher rate than they did during the 2000 Census.

Please take the time to fill out your 10 minute Census, this could help Adair County tremendously/

Thanks.
