Pack a camera with New Testament this Sunday We hope many will pack digital cameras to churches to help with one of the new features of the ColumbiaMagazine.com Directory of Churches: We're trying to link every listing with a picture of the church. So far, the work has been a bit slow and plodding, but it's underway. You'll see what we've done so far by looking in the "BA's," so mostly it's Southern Baptist and Separate Baptist Churches linked now. The photos we're using were the handiest ones we had. We welcome links to other photos already on CM. And we welcome superior ones. There are other changes in progress:

Sadly, KY loses to TN on verbal efficiency, re: regions About: Yes, there really is a Louisville Tennessee By Billy Joe Fudge CM Resident Contributing Adair Co., KY Folk Linguist One doesnt have to go any further than Clum-be Kentucky and Ca-lum-bi-a Tennessee to find another prime example of how Adair Countians have seemingly perfected verbal efficiency. Tennessee lost to Kentucky today in round ball of which I am thankful and in spite of their excessive syllabling in the previous example has shown amazing restraint in their labeling of geographic regions. Eastern, Central, and Western Kentucky fall considerably short of the brevity of East, Middle, and West Tennessee. In spite of our loyalty to the two syllabled Bluegrass State as opposed to the three syllabled Volunteer State, we should never pall in giving credit where credit is due. 2010-03-13 16:41:47 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Commentary
Atmos Energy agrees to cut requested rate increase by more than $3.5 million By Shelley Catharine Johnson, Office of KY Attorney General Attorney General Jack Conway and his Office of Rate Intervention today announced a preliminary settlement agreement with Atmos Energy Corporation which reduces the company's original demand for a rate hike by almost 38 percent. The agreement limits Atmos to a general increase of $5.950 million, a decrease of $3.536 million from its original request of approximately $9.486 million. "Under this agreement, Atmos' customers will experience a much smaller increase in their natural gas rates than otherwise requested by the company," said General Conway. "I will continue to closely examine all utility rate increases to protect consumers from overcharging, especially in these very difficult financial times." Atmos serves more than 180,000 customers in 38 counties. The Public Service Commission, which must approve the settlement, has currently scheduled a hearing on the matter on May 11, 2010 at 10amET/9amCT Since taking office in January 2008, General Conway has saved ratepayers approximately $103 million in proposed rate increases. 2010-03-13 16:14:48 | Comments | Printable version

Yes, there really is a Louisville, Tennessee About: Telefund raises nearly $18,000 for scholarships Ed, When I saw Louisville, Tennessee, I did some checking. I have a friend who lived there for several years and I visited him there. Louisville, Tennessee, is a very small place of 2,000 or a little more. As I recall, they pronounce the "s" (LOO-ez-vil). s/Robert Stone Lebanon, TN Thanks, Mr. Stone. Interesting note from the wonderful, but strange way of talking state of Tennessee. I'd bet they even make three syllables out of Leb-a-non, TN, when two will do. Properly mumbled in Adair County, KY, it is "Lebnan." Nothing particularly wrong with y'all's speech, but it does seem a shame when ne think of the wasted calories used enunciating every single syllable whether it's needed or. I'm also sure that the great smooth plump cheeked beauty we Kentuckians have is partly due to the economy of our speech, with due respect to our habit of eating light bread. Both reduce the vulgar cordoroying of cheeks from overwrought masseter muscles. -EW 2010-03-13 15:11:50 | Comments | Printable version
