Adair Countians urged to observe Earth Hour on March 27, 2010

A plea to Adair Countians to support Earth Hour, 8:30pmCT, March 27, 2010:
Wayne and I are in full support of "Earth Hour" 2010. It is an opportunity for us all to reevaluate our lives and the impact that we each have on the earth. Climate change is happening all around us and its pace is accelerating. From melting glaciers to increasingly intense weather patterns, climate change is already impacting life on Earth. Urgent action is needed now to save our planet for future generations.

Luckily, there is an easy action step all of us can take. In a bold statement of collective concern, millions of people around the world will turn off their lights for one hour - Earth Hour - on March 27, 2010 at 8:30pm local time.

Mr. Wesley was a member of a prominent Casey Co., KY family. He was a giant of South Central Kentucky broadcasting. He was owner and operator of radio station WKDO AM & FM in Liberty, KY for 42 years

Carlos Wesley, 67, Liberty, KY, died Friday, February 26, 2010, at his home in Liberty, KY.

The service will be at 11amET/10amCT, Monday, March 1, 2010, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, 752 Campbellsville ST, Liberty, KY, with Bro. Clifton Cowen and Bro. Johnny Maupin the officiating clergy. Burial will be in Rich Hill Cemetery in Casey Co., KY. Visitation will be from 6pmET/5pmCT to 9pmET/8pmCT, Sunday, February 28, 2010, at the funeral home.

Adair Co. takes runner-up title in 20th District Tournament

It's on to 5th Region and a shot at a State Tournament berth for Coach James Turner & Company - Chelsea Beard, Natalie Bertram, Hunter Delucca, Rachael Delucca, Katie Keltner, Preslie Lawless, McKenzie Martin, Chanley Otterson, Whitney Rodgers, Kassidi Taylor, and Hali Wheat

Adair Co. High Girls Basketball team members recognized:
  • Chelsea Beard, McKenzie Martin, Whitney Rodgers were named to the District All Tournament Team

  • Chelsea Beard, McKenzie Martin & Katie Keltner to the District All Season Team

  • McKenzie Martin received the All District Academic Award

The Adair County Girls Basketball team advances to the 5th Region Tournament, after taking the runner-up title in the 20th District Tournament last night at Campbellsville High School.

Marion County will represent the District, as well, after winning the championship game. The 20th District teams are in opposite brackets, which opens the possibility of an all-20th District Championship game on Saturday, March 6, 2010.

Driver faces charges after failing
to negotiate curve, crashing, and fleeing

St. Francis, KY - Trooper John Adam is investigating a collision that occurred at 12 am EST on KY 52, one mile east of St Francis.

Christopher Blandford, age 36, of St. Francis, KY, was operating a 1995 Buick when he failed to negotiate a curve, slid off the roadway, and overturned several times.Seat belts were not in use. Blandford and a passenger, Cathy Nalley, age 38, of Loretto, KY, fled the scene.

They were later picked up by Marion County Ems and transported to Springview Hospital.

Blandford was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, DUI 1st aggravated circumstances, and possession of an open alcoholic beverage in motor vehicle where prohibited.

Trooper Adams was assisted at the scene by Trooper Coyt, both of KSP Post 15, Columbia, KY, and Marion County Ems and Rescue.

Rep. Carney delivers flag which flew over State Capitol to CWC

State Representative John "Bam" Carney's office delivered new state and national flags to Col. Wm. Casey Elementary School this past week.

Both flags were flown over the state Capitol in Frankfort on Friday, January 29, 2010. Students pictured in the accompany photo, holding the flag, all have immediate family members who are currently serving in the U.S. military.

Columbia Police searching for escapee
from Adair Co. Regional Jail


From the Columbia Police Department

Columbia Police are investigating the escape of an Adair County Regional Jail inmate on February 26 2010, at approximately 5:15pmCT. The inmate Greg Cooper, 36, Columbia, KY, was taking out the jail garbage when he fled on foot.

Cooper is incarcerated for forgery, a non violent crime.

Cooper is about 5 feet 11 inches tall. He has brown hair and blue eyes. He is approximately 230 pounds.

If anyone has any information on the whereabouts of Greg Cooper, please contact the Columbia Police Department, any local law enforcement agency or 911. -Sgt. Jason Cross
