Obituary: Esther Harvey Sieg, 81 Adair Co., KY

Esther Sieg came to Columbia, KY, after a successful Louisville, KY business career. She was owner of Harvey Realty in Louisville; for being the First Female President of an Insurance Company in Kentucky, she was named to Who's Who in Kentucky. She was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Visitation and funeral service will be in Columbia; committal service will be in her native Jefferson Co., KY

Adair Co. Schools on 1 hour delay Wed., Feb. 17, 2010

Classes in the Adair County School District will be back in session on Wednesday, February 17, 2010, but will be on a one-hour delay, David Jones, Director of Student Transportation for the District, announced at 3:29pmCT, on Tuesday afternoon, February 16, 2010.

He said that if unexpected bad weather should necessitate a change in this announcement that it will be made as soon as possible through local media, including ColumbiaMagazine.com.

"Some people question why we have the one hour delay, commenting that there can't be much additional thawing in one hour," Mr. Jones said.

"They deserve an answer, and it is that it is a matter of visibility. When there's even a remote possibility of ice," Jones said, "we want the drivers to be perfectly able to see the roads and the children. We don't want any child picked up in the dark tomorrow morning."

She was a member of a respected Western Adair County family of the Tarter's Chapel United Methodist Church. Mrs. Keltner was a retired former employee of Oshkosh B'Gosh

Broomsedge is not grass.

The stems of grass are typically flat and sedges are typically triangular. You can feel the stems and tell the difference. Sedges die back during the fall and winter and grow back from the roots and seed each spring where grasses do not die back to the roots.

She was the property manager of Treetops Apartments in Edmonton, KY, for over 20 years

Hattie "Leigh" Brown, 70 of Edmonton, KY, passed away peacefully February 13, 2010 at the Metcalfe Health Care Center in Edmonton, KY, after a three year battle with breast cancer.

A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held in the spring in Edmonton, KY.
