Naptime bird is really a male Purple Finch, M.E. Lewis says

About: Birds of Kentucky Northern Cardinal Naptime
To Birds OK, ColumbiaMagazine.com:

I don't believe that is a Cardinal. It looks more like a male Purple Finch. Look at the picture on page 229 of your Birds of Kentucky book. If you don't have one of these books Day and Day feed may have some. They had re-ordered them when I was in there a couple of days ago.

M.E. Lewis

Good idea. We've changed the name on the Birds of KY caption to Male Purple Finch. For the record, the photographer just supplied the photo. Also, we hope you'll forgive the one who misnamed the bird a Northern Cardinal. He calls all red birds Cardinals. -EW

Wants list of American made products posted

Mr Waggener,

Could you please publish a list of "every day" products made in the USA so we can support our own economy as well as play an important part in saving American industry, businesses and employees. I was amazed recently at several products in the grocery store that I always thought were "American" brands but were not.

I think with additional education on what products are made in America, we could do great things in helping our fellow citizens. One example, I recently became aware of was light bulbs - not all are made in the USA, but I would l gladly support our economy versus another country's growth. A list of typical grocery items would be very enlightening. Thanks so much.

s/Susan Howery

Thanks. A list of American brands seems fairly ambitious. However, links to non-profit, non-advertising sites with such lists would be welcome for consideration. And we would like to start a list of South Central Kentucky made items, as well. One thing which comes to mind, quickly, is that when the Adair Farmers Market and the other farmers markets around the area are open, we know we are buying grown in America products. But we have a caveat, we'd like to list local products only when they are also the best. Given the choice of a poor quality Kentucky product and an excellent buy from Chile, China, or California, most will opt for the best buy. -EW
