Chocolate Walmart Lab Dog not Reeses Bennett

We just got this message:
Ed, Thank you so much for running the article on the chocolate lab that I found at Wal Mart! Mike Bennett came and looked at him and sadly, it wasn't his dog. So, we still have him and if you can keep running the ad, maybe his owners will hear about it. He is exceptionally friendly, and looks well-fed and healthy...so I believe he has parents somewhere!! If anyone knows anything about him, they can call me at (270) 805-1467. Thank you so much! Trish
This means the APB on Reeses is still out. But for others with missing chocolate labs, please watch the ANIMALS section in the ColumbiaMagazine.com classifieds.

Metcalfe Co. High School soliciting prizes for test incentives

Metcalfe County High School is in the process of scheduling and obtaining rewards to help us recognize student achievement. We need special help with motivating students on the state assessments they take. Within the next week or so, representatives from the high school will be circulating around the community soliciting prizes or any item that local businesses can spare that could motivate our students to learn.

We believe that by providing these incentives in partnership with you together we can better motivate students to do their best in the classroom as well as on the state test. We know that economic times are tough and if you cannot help us at this time, we understand. It is our hope that you will be able to join us in this effort to show the future businessmen and women of our community that we are behind them and urge them to do their very best. Thanks in advance for all your help! -Peter DiStefano, Assistant Principal, Metcalfe County High School, 208 Randolph ST, Edmonton, KY. (270) 432-2481.

LWC, Columbia Baptist Church celebrate century old partnership

Click on headline for story plus photo(s)

By Duane Bonifer

The century-long relationship between Lindsey Wilson College and Columbia Baptist Church was celebrated Sunday morning, February 7, 2010. Columbia Baptist Church held a special "Lindsey Wilson College Celebration Day" to mark the common partnership between the two institutions.

The Rev. G. Ted Taylor of Columbia Baptist Church noted that the church played an important role in 1902 when the Methodist Episcopal Church, South held the Louisville Annual Conference in Columbia. The 57th Annual Conference was held at the Adair County Courthouse in part to curry local favor to found what would become Lindsey Wilson Training School. Columbia Baptist Church, along with several other Protestant denominations, helped welcome the conference delegates to Columbia.

Sunday's celebration also included a special breakfast for LWC students, performance by the Lindsey Wilson Singers, recognition of the college's nationally ranked men's and women's soccer teams, and remarks by Lindsey Wilson President William T. Luckey Jr.

Chocolate Lab being held for owner. No ransom. Just respond

This report on an apparently missing dog was received posted to CM at 6:48pmCT, Sunday, February 7, 2010:
A very friendly chocolate lab male dog was found at WalMart (Columbia, KY) late this afternoon. He had been there for a couple of hours, so a woman took him home to keep him safe until his owners could be found. If he belongs to you, please submit your phone number to ColumbiaMagazine and I'll get in touch with you.
ColumbiaMagazine.com may post reports of the missing dog online, but does not act as a go-between. Nor do we forward private emails to the sources of the reports in situations such as this. Wish we could, but it is not feasible to provide this service at this time. All involved in the Good Samaritan acts are simply too shy to handle the publicity. We are happy to post photos received and do not charge for the photos. -EW
