A sampling of the ads in the February 2, 1910 Adair County News

by "Jim"

G. Paul Smythe had recently opened real estate broker's business on the Square, above the Post Office, and was offering several prime pieces of land, among then a "farm of 100 acres [with]in 2 miles of Columbia, most of it in timber." The price? An astronomical twelve dollars and fifty cents an acre. For those with a hankering for town life, he also offered no fewer than 18 "desirable homes in and near Columbia, ranging in price for $250 to $4,000...Also some desirable building lots for sale." (more 1910 news after the jump)

Great Invention photo essay: The Sled to Beat all Sleds

Later in the day, the first photo arrived showing Don Neat, Thomas Long, and John with a photo of the creation, and on Monday, February first we received pictures of the vehicle being field tested.

The photographic documentation is by Melissa Carter.

At this point, we are uncertain whether the Smithsonian would prefer the Red Letter day marking the technological advance as January 29, 2010, or the day the test ride was successful, but that is a matter for historians.
