Clearing Grider Hill Pass

2010-02-01 - KY 61 South at Grider Hill Pass, Columbia, KY - Photo by Kelly Crawhorn. "The highway maintenance department is another group of people who deserve credit for keeping the roads safe for us," writes Kelly Crawhorn. "While we are wrapped snug in our beds, they are out around the clock salting, plowing, and slowly making sure that the roads are passable the next morning. I know because I didn't see my husband for two days. This truck was plowing the shoulder of the road on HWY 61 south, Sunday morning leaving a great spray of snow in its wake." The Visible ahead are the Bomar Heights water tower and, to its left, Summit Manor Rehab. The far tank, over the Summit Manor roof, is at Lindsey Wilson. ColumbiaMagazine.com Group at Flickr.com

Mike Watson:
Old burial place should carry Pioneer Cemetery designation

By Mike Watson

The Stephen White cemetery, which should be designated as a Pioneer Cemetery of Kentucky, is indeed located on what was previously the Estil Ballou farm; the original settlement area of the Stephen and Thomas White families.

It can still be seen from the highway only by finding the few trees that are in and around it on the hill above and to the right of the house.

What are 10 largest buildings in Adair Co., KY?

Story in progress. Click on headline for the whole thing to date

By Ed Waggener

This morning a CM (not Lindsey Wilson) story subhead called the new Doris and Bob Holloway Health and Wellness Center the second largest building in Adair County.

Not so, we found out from Superintendent Darrell Treece. "Adair County High School has 128,452 square feet," and, he adds, "Adair County Elementary is a mere 72,554." That makes ACES just a 678 square feet shy of the Wellness Center's 73,232 s.f. Later, thanks to Mr. Treece, we have the numbers for all the Adair County Schools, and have a tentative 9 of the top 10 largest buildings list posted.

So here are the rankings so far as revealed to us:

Epicurean Kentuckian: Question on (diet) snow ice cream

M.E. Lewis has sent this earnest request for enlightenment on a one time winter treat:
Is anybody out there making Snow Cream from their snow? What are the ingrediants you are using? Can you make it with Splenda? Do you use condensed milk or evaporated milk? Can you make it with Skim milk?
Can anyone help M.E. Lewis with answers? Is the snow safe to consume? Does anyone still make snow ice cream? Or have memories of doing so as a kid? If so, please share.
