About: Query: Where is Stephen White Cemetery?

I think this is the same cemetery that I visited 6-8 years ago. It has one of my White relatives who was a Revolutionary War Vet. It is 4-5 miles out 704, on top of a very large hill.

Thanks to Joe Rogers, for going above and beyond

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

While alot of people are by their fires warm and cozy, our magistrate, Joe Rogers, is out with his tractor grading driveways, making sure we can get to work tomorrow.

I was stuck in my driveway and Joe came and graded my driveway today.

It's Sunday and everyone is home relaxing, but not our magistrate. He goes above and beyond his duties.

Thank you, Joe!

Poetry by Robert Stone: Patience - a sonnet

Patience

a sonnet by Robert Stone
I'm pushing much too hard for what I want
and silence is the answer that I get
for iterated praise can seem a taunt
and early confidence a looming debt.

I'm pulling back too often from my plan
and nuisance noise is filling in the void
for scattered efforts lead to also ran
and late consistency to hope destroyed.

I'm settling down at least I'm trying to
and calm is waiting still to be my guide
for kindly words illuminate anew
and steady possibilities provide.

Yes, patience is a virtue that I know
but holding firm exhausts when things go slow.
- Robert Stone, 31 January 2010

All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful:
The Lord God made them all.
Last Saturday a week ago was a little cool, but nice enough we could be outside. I took my camera along when we went to the park to feed the ducks and made pictures of my daughter and granddaughter. As I was looking at the photos it occurred to me that with bad weather reportedly headed our way it might be good to remind everyone to watch out for our animal friends.

Heavenly Music

Every now and again I slither over into matters theological and eschatological. This is one of those times. It is like the proverbial slippery slope that politicians accuse their opponents of sliding down.

A couple of Thursday nights ago I braved thunderous wind and rain to go over Main to the Thomas House for "Picking on the Porch" which, of course, was not on the porch but inside.

Kentucky Color: Honeylocust thorns and Blue Sky

Honeylocust is very pretty and pretty harmless in its thornless variety, but natural varieties can cause serious injuries. But there are rumors that some have used the pulp of the seed pods to make beer!

Honeylocust in its natural form is thorned. The thornless varieties growing in our yards and urban landscapes are Honeylocust but the thorns have been removed through breeding. The genetic disposition for thornlessness is in the Honeylocust itself.

You will notice that once a Honeylocust reaches about 10 years of age it grows no thorns in the crown only on the main trunk below crown level.

Carter G. Woodson, Black History Month, and Some Sports History

Celebrating February as Black History Month is an outgrowth of an observance instituted in 1926, 80 years ago, by Professor Carter G. Woodson. Woodson (1875-1950) was a historian; his parents were former slaves living in rural Virginia when they started their family. They had moved to West Virginia because the segregated schools there offered more educational opportunities for non-whites than Virginia, where there was little attempt to provide much public education beyond grade school.
