Friendly, hungry, brindle boxer on Yellowhammer RD

Myra Harrison has called with a report that a very friendly, brindle, intact male boxer has been spotted on Yellowhammer RD, between Pierce's Chapel Church and the Creek, on the Fairplay side of Yellowhammer. "It is very hungry," she said. "It tries to get in the cars, I'm told." She did not have a number to call, but hoped this message would reach the owner in time for a happy reunion to occur..

GAS PRICE DRUMBEAT: The question of the ages

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

I would like to know why the gas prices are lower when you leave Adair and Green Counties - the price in Glasgow is 2.49 and in other surrounding counties it is approximately 2.55 a gallon and here it is between 2.62 and 2.65. Just my observation.

s/Lorne Holler

Mr. Holler, the question you pose about this issue is one which has confounded folks in this community for decades. High prices hurt commerce for all of Adair County . One of the ways to fight the prices is with dollars. Cut way back on driving. Walk. Carpool. Get a bike. Get an electric or hybrid vehicle. Get a horse. Ride a bus. Live close to where you work. Be an activist about it, and act with your vote. Let the City Council, Adair County Fiscal Court, School Board, Chamber of Commerce, and the State Attorney General know what you think about the problem. Find out exactly how each of them has responded to the high prices. Find out how candidates feel about the inequities. It is election time. And sound off in the media and in gatherings. -EW

CM candidate announcements are now easier to study

It's now one click easier to read the candidates' announcements on ColumbiaMagazine.com. The names in the Special Ads, News box on the front page now are linked to the candidates' announcements.

Many have told us that the feature is an easy and important way to learn more about the people who are asking for their votes. We're making every effort to see that the links work, but occasionally, some need attention. When they do, readers have been quick to let us know, and we appreciate that.

The front page links will remain through midnight, Sunday, January 31, 2010. They are posted at no charge to the candidates until then, after which ColumbiaMagazine.com will post paid advertising.

The response on county-wide offices has been great. Only a few have not posted announcements.

So far, all of the Republican candidates for County Judge Executive have posted announcements. The county attorney candidate, who has no opposition, is in the list. All the candidates for county court clerk, sheriff, and property valuation administrators have posted announcements and photos. And five of the six jailer. Two of the three candidates for coroner have announcements online.

We're still hoping to receive the other CJE candidates' announcements, from the last of the jailer and coroner candidates, and the county surveyor

The invitation to post announcements is extended, as well, to candidates for the Magisterial offices and to the Constable Positions, as well as for city, school board, and USDA offices. You can read about many of the Magistrates, but, so far, no Constables have submitted announcements.
