Great Backyard Bird Count newsletter link

Sue Stivers, Executive Director of the Columbia Adair County Chamber of Commerce, has sent a copy and a link to Chamber members reminding them of the 13th Annual Great Backyard Bird Count. The link is to the 13th Annual Great Backyard Bird Count, Participant Newsletter for January 26, 2010

Many groups are supporting the Adair County GBBC Checklist effort. Among those who have let us know of special efforts are The Adair County Garden Club, the Adair County Public Library, Col. Wm. Casey Elementary School, and, of course, the Chamber of Commerce.

If your group is planning special participation, we hope you'll let us know, to synergize the goal of making Adair County one of the nation's Top 10 GBBC communities this year. Last year, Wendy Burt, who has developed checklists especially for Adair County and provides Birding 101 through the Adair County Garden Club, said, the community was the 21st in the nation. "And far and away the top community in Kentucky," she added.

She's working on a special beginners checklist for students which should be available for this year.

Modern Day Miracle Jace Cole celebrates 1st birthday

Countless prayers uttered on child's behalf are reason for happy outcome, after last year's little newborn spent first 11 weeks of life undergoing surgeries

From Jamie, Tricia, Taylor, and Jace Cole

One year ago today we were blessed with the birth of our 1st son, Jace. We had no idea that he would be born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS).

The next day after his birth, he was sent to University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville for a few hours and then flown to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital in Nashville.

There he spent the first seven weeks of his life and had a major heart surgery at six days old. During this last year, he has spent eleven weeks at VCH and had two major heart surgeries and two minor surgeries.

Today, he celebrates his 1st birthday. To look at him now, you would never guess what all he has been through this last year. Our family and many of you have uttered countless prayers for him over the last year.

Those prayers are the reason that Jace is doing so well today and able to celebrate his 1st birthday.

He truly is a "modern day miracle." We want to say a special thanks to everyone who has helped our family or prayed for us during this last year. You will never know how much we appreciate it. Sincerely, Jamie, Tricia, Taylor & Jace Cole
