Commentary on confusion of Nashville street names, signage

The CM story on re-naming of campus streets at Lindsey Wilson College, and the attendant confusion which might have happened had Blue Raider Drive been named North Blue Raider DR and South Blue Raider DR, prompted this commentary from Robert H. Stone. We printing it because we think it shows, very clearly, what appears to be true: The larger the community, the bigger the institution, the more likely big city know-it-all attitudes or insular institutional smugness of colleges and universities tend to make administrations think, very erroneously, that "everybody knows where that is." Ain't so. We are so proud of Adair County, KY for it's leadership, through the Fiscal Court, the 911 Address Coordinator, the FFA Address Marker drive, and especially through Lindsey Wilson College's efforts making student and visitor safety a top priority. If anyone knows of any other campus in Kentucky to match it, we'd like to know. -EW

By Robert H. Stone, Lebanon, TN

I don't know if you are familiar with Nashville-Davidson County but there are two especially aggravating situations there.

Old Hickory Boulevard runs in a circle around the entire county so saying you are on Old Hickory Boulevard is essentially meaningless. And sections of it are NOT known as N, E, S, or N.

Harding, ah Harding! There is Harding Road, Harding Place, Old Harding Road, Harding this and Harding that. Again, if you are just on Harding, you are in an unknown place.
