Division of Water offers cold weather water pipe tips

From KY Division of Water

With frigid temperatures and wind chills expected to continue through the week, the Kentucky Division of Water reminds citizens to protect the water systems in their homes and businesses from freezing.

When water freezes, it expands. When water freezes in a pipe and expands enough, the pipe bursts, water escapes and serious damage results. Pipes in attics, crawl spaces and outside walls are all vulnerable to freezing, especially if there are cracks or openings that allow cold outside air to flow across the pipes.

Utilities merger: Writer says, Get it done.

About: 25 Steps to utilities merger

By Billy Joe Fudge

I was reading your report on the Columbia City Council meeting last evening and I was just wondering....
  • If our city council has already approved the changeover for the school system why are we seeking delays for the rest of Columbia?

  • If our defunct city utilities commission, all past city governments, and the present city government have neglected the upkeep of our utilities why would they be seeking to delay the transfer at this late date?

  • Why are we stumbling over the Columbia City Limits? Aren't Columbians also Adair Countians? Do folks from out in the county need a visa to enter Columbia?

  • Should we proceed with eyes wide open? Yes, of course. But if it is kosher for the school system then it should be kosher for the rest of the city.

  • Are there any logical reasons for delay? If not, let's get it done.
Columbia-Adair County Water District is an ok name, but if I were naming this new entity I would go for "Columdair Water District." It has originality and a poetic flow, don't you think? Besides I like words that aren't in the dictionary.

I thought about "Adumbia Water District," but I don't like it very much for the obvious reason. -Billy Joe Fudge
