E.H. Lepiarczyk: Susie Pelz Grant is a remarkable lady

And he, himself, is ready for role in German War Bride; wants screen test
About: Susie Grant with The True Story of a German War Bride

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

I really enjoyed the article regarding my cousin's wife, Susie Pelz Grant.

Mrs. Grant is one of the most remarkable ladies with whom I have become acquainted in Adair County.

I have enjoyed conferring with Mrs. Grant about the genealogies of the esteemed Burton, Harmon, and Neat families.

Mrs. Grant is wished every success with her book's debut in Hollywood.

I want a screen test. I've been ready for Hollywood for years; but, Hollywood hasn't been ready for me!

Kongratulieren, Frau Grant und Alles Guten Wuenschen zu Dir!

Public service announcement - Passing on the right

By TFC Billy Gregory, Public Affairs Officer
Kentucky State Police 15, Columbia, KY

COLUMBIA, KY - Kentucky State Police Post 15, Columbia, KY, has received an increase in complaints of vehicles passing on the right and has seen an increase in the number of collisions resulting from these improper passes.

The Kentucky state law reads that
"...the operator of a vehicle may overtake and pass upon the right of another vehicle only under the following conditions: when the vehicle overtaken is making or about to make a left turn; upon a roadway with an unobstructed pavement of sufficient width for 2 or more lines of vehicles moving lawfully in the direction being traveled by the overtaking vehicle. The operator of a vehicle may overtake and pass another vehicle upon the right only under conditions permitting such movements in safety. Such movement shall not be made by driving off the roadway unless passing vehicle comes to a complete stop and such movement may be made safely."
The Kentucky State Police are asking that all drivers make a more concerted effort to adhere not only to this law but to the proper practices of safe driving; slowing at intersections, coming to a complete stop, signaling early and every time a direction change is made, keeping an appropriate and safe following distance, buckling up and traveling at safe speeds.
Story courtesy TFC William Gregory, Public Affairs Officer, Kentucky State Police Post 15, 1118 Jamestown ST, (at Exit 49, Louie B. Nunn Parkway), Columbia, KY. Kentucky State Police Post 15, Columbia, KY, covers the 11 counties of Adair, Casey, Clinton, Cumberland, Green, Marion, Metcalfe, Monroe, Russell, Taylor and Washington.

Cat found near Country Club in Columbia, KY

There was a young female cat, not a kitten, found last night, December 28, 2009, in the subdivision by the country club. She is a very gentle, cat that likes to be held. She uses the litter box, so we think that she is looking for her parents. She also doesn't mind other cats, but our cat really likes being the only cat at our house. If you have a young female cat missing, please call (270) 634-1972.

Gov. sets special Feb. 2, 2010 election for 24th District

Vacancy for seat representing Casey, Marion, and Pulaski Counties created after Jimmy Higdon wins Senate Seat for Taylor, Marion, Washington, Mercer and Nelson Counties.

FRANKFORT, KY - Gov. Steve Beshear today set the date for a special election to fill a legislative vacancy. The special election will be held on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 for the district that encompasses Casey, Marion and Pulaski Counties.

The vacancy in the 24th district of the House of Representatives is the result of the resignation of Rep. Jimmy Higdon, who resigned by letter on December 14, 2009 having been elected to represent the 14th district of the State Senate, which includes Taylor, Marion, Washington, Mercer and Nelson Counties.

KRS 118.730 dictates that governor must issue the writ for a special election for a member of the General Assembly if the vacancy occurs when the legislature is not in session.

In accordance with KRS 118.760, nominations to fill vacancies at special elections are made pursuant to the governing authority of the party in the territory which the election is to be held. Petitions and certificates of nomination may be filed 28 days before the day of election, and if filed with the Secretary of State, shall be immediately certified by the Secretary of State to the proper county clerks per KRS 118.770.

Amazing! Machine invigorated with major minor adjustment

CM does not vouch for this story, as our e-mail lies filter was down this morning, and one must consider the source. It may or may not be 'mostly true,' as claimed by this self-admitted Cracker

By Charles Marshburn, foreign sports contributing reporter

I have been known to spin a yarn, but this one is mostly true! I bought a four wheeler not long ago from an ad in "The Magazine."

It had a big blue and white sticker on it with the letters "UK" prominently displayed. Didn't know there were that many folks around here from England!

Adair County author Susie Grant, whose book, "A True Story of a German War Bride," is being submitted to DreamWorks for consideration to be made into a movie, has a special way with birds, as this photo of her with a redbreasted grosbeak in May of 2007, shows.
