Kentucky Color: Bald Eagle in Taylor Co., KY

By Billy Joe Fudge, President
Homeplace on Green River, 6035 New Columbia RD, Campbellsville, KY

A visitor from up North looking for lunch in Taylor County, Tuesday, December 22, 2009. This is an immature Bald Eagle, probably less than 4 years old, was next to Dixie Farm Store, 1505 New Columbia RD, Campbellsville, KY - the John Deere place, right before a dive down to pick up lunch, probably a mouse. Excellent Bald Eagle viewing usually down river from the Green River Bridge just below the dam in early mornings and late afternoons. Drive slow and good luck.

Jones Chapel UMC members deliver 65 Christmas dinners

Church celebrates Christ's birth by sharing and giving

By Terry Partin

Celebrating the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is what Christmas is all about. When we reflect upon the significance of that birth and the resulting sacrifice that was made on our behalf, we are led to express our love for others by sharing and giving. That's exactly what the congregation at Jones Chapel United Methodist Church has done this Christmas season.

On Tuesday afternoon, December 21, 2009, church members gathered at the church at 2267 Jones Chapel road to prepare Christmas dinners to share with the community. Christmas dinners consisting of country ham, turkey, dressing, cranberry sauce, green beans, potatoes, rolls and dessert were delivered throughout the community and beyond. Bro. Mike Moon, pastor, stated that a total of 65 meals were served, with 35 being delivered by church members.

Other Christmas activities at Jones Chapel this year included the annual Christmas dinner and program, and delivery of Christmas presents to the Methodist Children's home at Versailles Kentucky. Merry Christmas, to one and all from Jones Chapel United Methodist Church! -Terry Partin

Economy is looking up. For the Seven County Area, only Metcalfe County's jobless rate increased from October to November 2009. Metcalfe's 18% unemployment was second highest in the state

December 23, 2009 - Jobless rates fell from October to November 2009 in six of the seven counties which include Adair, Casey, Cumberland, Green, Metcalfe, Russell and Taylor Counties. Only Metcalfe County showed an increase:

Joblesss Rates in the Seven-County area

November, 2008, statistics from the KY Education and Workforce Development Cabinet
  1. Casey Co., 9.6% unemployed
  2. Taylor Co., 10.1% unemployed
  3. Adair Co., 10.8% unemployed
  4. Green Co., 11.7% unemployed
  5. Russell Co., 12.0% unemployed
  6. Cumberland County, 12.4% unemployed
  7. Metcalfe Co., 18% unemployed
While the rate is lower month to month, all counties in Kentucky had higher levels of unemployment when measured against one year ago, The improved 2008 month to month figures are, in part, due to the Federal stimulus money being pumped into the economy by Federal government.

Wants Jesus of Nazareth in birthdays list

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

December 25th. From most accounts, Jesus Christ of Nazareth was born on this date. This is the reason we have this date marked. And the reason for the season. Do you know the date Biblically?

I looked ahead at the birthdates and on the 25th his name wasn't there, and it should be. So I hope this is OK.s/Sheila Hare
