If absentee voting is indicator, interest is high for school issue

By Ed Waggener

If the number of voters casting absentee ballots in the office of Adair County Court Clerk Sheila Blair, in the Adair Annex Building, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY, is any indicator, the interest in the vote on the Special School tax is very high.

A check at 4:10pmCT, Monday evening, December 14, 2009, showed that 79 voters had cast votes by machine, and, on the way out of the building, a friend announced that his purpose was to vote, which would make 80 by machine.

The number is almost twice the 43 votes cast in 2005 when the measure was defeated. This year, a far more intensive battle for modern schools has been waged by the Community Working for Children. Most observers still are ready to make a prediction that the measure, considered THE critical issue for Adair County progress in the next decade and beyond, will pass this time, but their hopes are high today.

The polls are now open across Adair County and will remain open from 6amCT until 6pmCT.

Joe Hare: Brass tacks time; time to vote FOR tax

'. . . now I am asking this community to get out and vote tomorrow (Tuesday , Dec 15th) and pass this tax.' - JOE HARE
Commentary from voter who carefully weighed issues before deciding to Vote FOR: On an issue he asked more hard questions about than possibly anyone else, writer says, "I believe that it will cost us less to have this tax now, than what may come down the road if we vote it down." And having said that, he says we've learned a lesson in how to maintain good government: Stay involved

By Joe Hare

Nickel Tax Questions Answered

Well, Ed, it is getting down to "brass tack" time on this Nickel Tax issue. I have listened to a lot of positive and negative on the tax and I have tried to ask some fairly pointed, but relevant questions. I have not paid much attention as to who is for or aganist and make up my own mind. I am sure some people thought that I was "talking out of both sides of my mouth"; by asking and then saying I was for the tax.

About: ACES Principal Assistant Principal for CWC

By John Ford

Hi Ed, John Ford here and I just wanted to weigh in on the tax issue... the other day Mr. Bault called and asked me to measure for commercial floor tile at CWC.

While measuring I asked the teacher what had happened to cause such discoloration of the floor and she informed me that one of the big heaters had sprung a leak and poured oil over an area of about eight feet by twenty feet.
