The difference $21 per person per year can make

2009-11-12 - Adair County Schools, Main Campus, Columbia, KY - Photo By Ed Waggener. Two schools. Same County. Same system. One half mile and worlds apart. The new Adair County Elementary School, top, is among the top facilities in the country. The 48 year old Col. Wm. Casey Elementary School building, below, fares well only in comparison with the worst school facilities in Appalachia. For a small property tax averaging less than $21 per person per year in Adair County, the local school board could finance the construction of a replacement school as good as the new Adair County Elementary School. Construction of the new school could start as early as 2010 if Adair County voters support the Nickel Tax.
