Fatal collision in Monroe Co., at 2:30pmCT today, Oct. 20, 2009

Kentucky State Police Post 15, Columbia, KY

Trooper Ricky Brooks of KSP Post 15, Columbia, KY is investigating a fatal collision that occurred today, Tuesday, October 20, 2009, at approximately 2:30pmCT.

Patricia L Lucas, 34, of Hestand, KY, was operating a 2004 Chevy Silverado westbound on KY Highway 216. Lucas ran off the shoulder of the roadway, struck a culvert, and overturned. Lucas was pronounced deceased at the scene of the collision by the Monroe County Coroner.

Hallow Read set for October 27th at Adair Elementary

Adair County Elementary School, 870 Indian Drive, Columbia, Kentucky will host the annual Hallow Read event on October 27, 2009, 5pm-6:30pmCT. All children, infant through 6th grade and their parents are invited to attend this spooky reading event. There will be reading rooms, a demonstration by our "mad scientists" and free pizza and candy for everyone. Children are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes. Adair Co. FD responds to fire on Peanut Lane, Columbia, KY

The Adair County Fire Dept responded at 4:35amCT, Tuesday morning, October 20, 2009, to a mobile home fire at 92 Peanut Lane off of Bill Turner Road, Columbia, KY. The home was occupied by Leslie Morris and owned by LG McKinney. The mobile home had substantial damage and there were 13 firemen on scene for 1.5 hours.

Kentucky Unemployment falls in September 2009

From the KY Education and Workforce Development Cabinet

FRANKFORT, KY - Kentucky's seasonally adjusted preliminary unemployment rate fell to 10.9 percent in September 2009 from a revised 11.2 percent in August 2009, according to the Office of Employment and Training (OET), an agency of the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet. September 2009's jobless rate is 4 percentage points higher than the 6.9 percent rate recorded in September 2008.

LWC will hold 16th Annual Safe Halloween, Oct. 29, 2009

COLUMBIA, KY - Halloween will be celebrated Thursday, October 29, 209, at Lindsey Wilson College for Southcentral Kentucky children. On that day, Lindsey Wilson College will hold its "Safe Halloween," an annual event that gives the region's trick-or-treaters an opportunity to collect candy in Lindsey Wilson's residence halls.

Parents and guardians can bring children to the lobby of Lindsey Wilson Cralle Student Union Building, 420 Spickard DR, Columbia, KY, from 6-8pmCT on Thursday, October 29, 2009.

Obituary: Bobby (Bob) Bruce Rowe, 78, Somerset, KY

Mr. Rowe was a native of Cumberland Co., KY, with relatives in Adair Co., KY. He was a veteran of the Korean War and will also be remembered for his wonderful photographs for Somernite

Bobby "Bob" Bruce Rowe, Somerset, KY, died Saturday, October 17, 2009, at his residence.

A memorial for Mr. Rowe wil be Tuesday, October 20, 2009, from 6-9pmET/5-8pmCT at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80, Somerset, KY and on Wednesday, from 11am-12:30pmET. A graveside service will be Wednesday, October 21, 2009, at 1:30pmET/12:30pmCT at Mill Springs National Cemetery, 9044 W. Highway 80, Nancy, KY with Bro. Don Coggins offficiating. The American Legion Post No. 38 will conduct full military honors.

Very important 2010 census talk at Chamber luncheon today

Every Adair Countian counts. The 2010 Census means more than just bragging rights, though that's an important consideration for the Chamber, local government, and county citizens. The total can play a major role in making the 2010-2020 period the Adair County Decade in Kentucky. If growth pattern of 1990-2000 has continued, Adair County population would be in 19,365 range in 2010.

The guest speaker at today's monthly meeting of the Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce will be Dale Turner, Partnership Specialist with the US Census Bureau. Mr. Turner will detailing the U.S. Census Bureau's effort to to have every Adair County resident counted in the census.

While the U.S. Census Bureau has workers hired to conduct the census, the Chamber encourages every Adair Countian to voluntarily help with the count.

Ambulance with patients collides with cow in roadway

Injury collision occurs a vehicle was transporting patient on non-emergency run to Lebanon, KY, to hospital. Accident occurs in northernmost county in Kentucky State Police Post 15, Columbia, KY service area

WASHINGTON CO., KY - Collision occurred at 1:16amET/12:16pmCT, 1 mile south of Willisburg on Ky 433. A 2000 Ford F250 Ambulance was traveling Southbound when the ambulance struck a cow which was in the roadway.

The ambulance was being operated by Donald Milburn, age 45, Springfield, KY, who was belted and was transporting a patient, Virginia Lewis, age 71, Mackville, KY, who was also belted to Springview Hospital in Lebanon, KY.
