Lindsey Wilson College Sports Information Director TRUCKEE, CA - The Lindsey Wilson College cycling team took fifth place at the USA Cycling Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championships at the Northstar at Tahoe Resort on October16-18, 2009. The Blue Raiders earned 409 points in their final meet of the season, while Fort Lewis (CO) College won the team title with 671 points. The University of Colorado and Lees-McRae (NC) College finished second and third with 589 and 555 points, respectively. The Strong Women Program to be offered at Adair Health Dept. By Jelaine Harlowe The Adair County Health Department will be offering "The Strong Women Program," A National Fitness Program for Women, beginning November 10, 2009. This is a 12-week program for women 40 and over. The series will be led by Jelaine Harlow, Lee Ann Jessie and Kelli Bonifer. Strong Women was developed by Miriam Nelson, PhD, an associate professor at Tufts Universitys and is based upon years of research on how strength training and proper nutrition improve the health of women of all ages. The program is appropriate for both sedentary and very active women. Weights are provided. It's mating season: motorists reminded to look out for deer Defensive driving can reduce tragic encounters on roadways By H.B. Elkins, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet story JACKSON, KY - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is reminding motorists that deer become a greater roadway hazard this time of year as mating season arrives. Each year the mating season, which lasts from October through December, accounts for a spike in deer-related crashes in the commonwealth. There were 2,926 deer-related crashes reported in Kentucky in 2008, leading to two fatalities and 178 injuries. This year, 1,509 deer-related crashed have been reported thus far, resulting in 105 injuries and no deaths. Nationally, about 150 people die each year in motor vehicle accidents involving deer.
