Understands internet outage Oct. 17, 2009 was statewide About: Internet service was back up after about an hour of downtime To ColumbiaMagazine: A lady at Duo-County told me that it was a state-wide problem yesterday. s/Kelly Crawhorn 2009-10-18 12:56:54 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback
Internet problems not limited to Adair Co., KY About: Did anyone have trouble with Internet? To ColumbiaMagazine.com: Duo-County was not the only one with Internet problems. South Central Rural Telephone was down off and on last night. I talked to a friend in Hart County and theirs had been out also. Last night at about 8:30pm, I went to the grocery, I couldn't use my debit card because the Internet was down. The cashier said they had problems all day yesterday with the Internet going off and coming back. This makes a person wonder if there wasn't some problem widespread in this area with a satellite. s/Johnnietta Jessie 2009-10-18 08:46:58 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback

Rev. Joey N. Welsh: Reprint (2006) Bridges, modjeskas, Louisville ANOTHER ANGLE: the occasional musings of a Kentucky pastor. This story originally posted on ColumbiaMagazine.com October, 2006 By the Rev. Joey N. Welsh email: joey_n_welsh@hotmail.com OF SPANS, SWEET REMINDERS AND CONNECTEDNESS Including brief directions to Modjeskas in Louisville and Jeffersonville Several different Hebrew words are translated as "span" in the Old Testament. In a number of passages span refers to a measure of length, about nine inches or so, the average breadth of an adult hand with fingers spread. This is the span referred to in Exodus 28:15-17, describing the details of a priestly garment, "Fashion a breastpiece for making decisions - the work of a skilled craftsman. Make it like the ephod: of gold, and of blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and of finely twisted linen. It is to be square - a span long and a span wide--and folded double. Then mount four rows of precious stones on it. In the first row there shall be a ruby, a topaz and a beryl;" (NIV). A Kindred Spirit: Cell phones, sand and sun roofs The next earlier A Kindred Spirit: This nana prefers wrinkles over tattoos By Teresa Bell Kindred Strange things happen to me. I don't know why, but they do. Yesterday I was driving and my cell phone started ringing. Internet service was back up after about an hour of downtime About: Wonders if others had email outage To ColumbiaMagazine.com: I called earlier this afternoon and Duo County was experiencing a system wide outage. They said around an hour downtime but came back up for a time and went down again. I am on it now. Maybe fixed. s/Thomas Johnson Thanks for sharing. The company did a great job in quickly restoring service after facing what a customer service representative termed a "major problem." In less time than I needed to buy an ether net to enable an alternate service, they had us going again. They did a super job. In this outage, patience was the best solution, as it is in most. -EW 2009-10-18 02:28:39 | Comments | Printable version
Local History: Bill Beard (1927-2001) was an original About: Historic picture being hung at Ol Joes BB Que Bill Beard (1927-2001) To ColumbiaMagazine.com: Dad always told the story of Bill and his giving a tie to every Methodist preacher on their birthday, Dad included - and he knew most of their birthdays. Bill did not go to the Methodist Church (Christian, I think), but he gave the ties to the Methodist preachers. He would also be offered money by someone holding a hand full of coins out to him, by people who thought they could get the best of him. He always took the nickles, though there might be dimes and quarters in the outstretched palm. Someone finally asked him why he did took the smaller denominations. His answer was a classic: If he took the larger ones, the people would stop offering them to him. He was an original. s/Martha Henry Berry 2009-10-18 02:01:34 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Local History
