Casey Storm at KY 70 & 206 a localized twister, reporter says

WHVE FM 92.7 the WAVE newsman Alan Reed has just returned from the site of the tornado Friday afternoon, October 9, 2007 around the intersection of KY 206 and KY 70 in Casey Co., KY, about 7 miles west of Liberty.

"About 2-3 mobile homes looked like they just exploded," he said. "There was debris all over several fields," he said, "and some damage to the store in the intersection."

Reed said he expected that KY 206 would be shut down for a few more hours. Reed said there was also damage to a church near Phillips School on KY 70 about one-half mile west of the intersection.

"It seemed to be localized," Reed said. "and it appeared to be a twister, from the utility poles that were snapped and the way the trees were damaged. I think it will be classified as an F1 tornado," he said. "It wasn't a straight line wind."

Any updates, corrections, or photos anyone can share will be appreciated.

Adair County has major opportunity for educational improvement

Commentary by Bobby D. Morrison

Most people say and agree that that our children are our future. However, do we really believe it and show it by our actions. No one likes to pay more taxes, but the taxes we pay in America is what has made it the greatest country to live in the world because we have always had a vision and worked to make things better.

There is no doubt that we are way behind in Adair County with our school infrastructure, industrial development and our willingness to do the things necessary to improve the community. We have been asleep while the world has changed.

It is relatively easy to get Events online at ColumbiaMagazine.com. But we do ask that some standards be observed. The main one is that the Event be submitted in a format similar to other announcements in Events. Emulate the ones you see most often. Note too, that we rarely post any event which does not give ColumbiaMagazine.com the answers they need to the questions: Who? What? Why? Where? (and Where must include a street number and street) and How?. We ask that every Event submission include complete contact information, just in case the item needs a correction.

Youngs Mill: Ad in Adair County News shows lineage

By "Jim"

That Young's Mill was once known as Montgomery's Mill is supported by an ad placed in the Adair County News in the spring of 1909. The Young Brothers, of Joppa, had a horse (Rex Peacock) and a jack (Gov. Wood); the ad noted:
"The above named stock will make the present season at A.O. Young's barn, one mile north of Joppa, on the same farm as Young's Mill, known as Montgomery or Murrell Mill."
There were but few other mentions of the mill (by any name) in the 1900-1910 News, but the Joppa correspondent referenced it twice - once directly, once indirectly - in the August 31, 1910 edition:
"There is to be a picnic at Young's mill the first Saturday in September," and "Our country people have decided to eat water mill flour awhile from the number of wagon loads of wheat we see pass."

Enter Young Mill or Youngs Mill in the searchbox to see several other articles on the landmark.
