LWC students aid Jamestown, KY Children's Advocacy Center



2009-10-06 - Photo by Duane Bonifer. LWC photo.. A group of Lindsey Wilson College students completed a class project Tuesday that will assist area children going through a traumatic experience. The Freshman Seminar Class, which is part of the college's Civic Engagement Learning Community, donated 150 stuffed animals and 70 decorated t-shirts to the Children's Advocacy Center, of Jamestown, KY. The child-focused center is the only children's advocacy center in this area. Staff there will give the shirts and stuffed animals to children who have been allegedly sexually abused instead of gowns when they are taken to the hospital for examination. Injury occurs when driver loses control in curve near Loretto, KY

Kentucky State Police Post 15, Columbia, KY

MARION COUNTY - A collision occurred .7 mile north of St Francis on KY 527 at 1:11pmET, Tuesday, October 6, 2009.

Gregory Ruley age 44 of Loretto, KY was operating a 1989 Chevy S-10 Blazer Northbound on KY 527 when he lost control in a curve, ran off the roadway striking a ditch, he crossed the roadway again and overturned in a yard.

Ruley was not wearing a seat belt and transported by EMS to Springview Hospital. The collision is being investigated by TPR Jonathan Boyd.

LWC Men's Soccer climbs into NAIA top three

Lindsey Wilson College mens soccer jumped one spot for the second straight week to No. 3 in the NAIA Men's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 Poll with 607 points, the national office announced on Tuesday, October 6, 2009.

The top two spots of the poll remained the same with Bethel (TN) University (649 points) holding the No. 1 ranking for the fifth consecutive week with 18 of the 23 first-place votes. Azusa Pacific (CA) University picked up five votes for first place to take the No. 2 spot with 636 points.

Lindsey Wilson (6-1-0, 2-0-0 MSC) responded well after a 10-day layoff with a 5-0 shutout of Campbellsville (KY) University on Sept. 29. The Blue Raiders continued their hot streak on October 3 with a 1-0 win at 16th ranked Auburn (AL) University Montgomery.

Sophomores Moses Aduny netted the game-winning goal against Auburn-Montgomery in the 26th minute, while freshman Chris Ochieng led the attack against the Tigers with a pair of goals in the 17th and 24th minutes.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 7pmCT on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 against University (KY) of the Cumberlands at Walter S. Reuling Stadium, 151 Blue Raider DR, Columbia, KY. The Blue Raider women's program takes on Cumberlands in the opening game of the night at 5pmCT.

Funeral arrangements for former Campbellsville University Football Coach Ron Finley have been announced.

Visitation is from 5:01pm to 8:01pmCT, Wednesday, October 7, 2009, at First Baptist Church, 92 E Highway 80, Russell Springs, KY, on East KY 80.

Visitation from 9:01am to 11amET, Thursday, October 8, 2009, at Ransdell Chapel, 401 N. Hoskins AV, on the Campbellsville University Campus with the funeral at 11:01amCT.

In lieu of flowers, donations are asked to be made to the Ron Finley Endowed Scholarship Fund at Campbellsville University. All current and former Russell County and Campbellsville College/University players are asked to be honorary pallbearers.

ACHS Girls Basketball boosters to deliver lunches Oct. 23, 2009

The Adair County Girls Basketball booster will be calling area businesses the week of October 12-16, 2009, to take orders for box lunches to be delivered to businesses on Friday, October 23, 2009. The proceeds from the sale go to girls basketball boosters as a fundraising activity for the upcoming season. The money will be collected when the meal is delivered. The meals consist of a a chicken salad salad, pasta salad, chips, and a brownie and the price will be $5.00. Persson, Revlett sweep MSC womens soccer weekly honors

LOUISVILLE, KY - Lindsey Wilson College freshman midfielder Mia Persson and senior goalkeeper Carrie Revlett collected both the Mid-South Conference Womens Soccer Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors, the conference announced on Monday.

The weekly award is the third for Revlett and first for Persson this season.

KY Dept. for Public Health reports 2 more H1N1-related deaths

Deaths are in Hopkins, Caldwell Counties. DPS urges basic hygiene to help prevent flu pread

(Oct. 5, 2009) FRANKFORT, Ky. - The Kentucky Department for Public Health (DPH), the Pennyrile District Health Department and the Christian County Health Department announced today that the state is reporting two additional deaths related to 2009 H1N1 influenza (swine flu). The deaths involved a Caldwell County teenager with no known health issues and a Christian County woman in her late 20s who had underlying health issues.

Mr. Wise had been employed by Fruit of the Loom and the City of Campbellsville

Jerry Wise of Campbellsville, KY, son of Dixie Yates Wise and the late Charles Junior Wise, was born March 20, 1950 in Marion County, Kentucky. He died at 11:19amET, Friday, October 2, 2009 in Elizabethtown, KY, at the age 59 years, 6 months, and 12 days.

The funeral was Monday, October 5, 2009 in Campbellsville, KY.

Word of Life corn toss tournament, Oct. 17, 2009

I found a very interesting article that Mrs. Frances Glasgow wrote about the history of Milltown. I found it by doing a computer search for Milltown history. She is from one of the oldest families of that area. The article has a lot of information about the water mill that gave the town its name.

Adair Dive team studies Search Patterns

The Adair County Dive and Rescue Team took two day's of training over the weekend in Dive Rescue.The training included these areas:
  • Search patterns with a rope from shore, search patterns from a depth in open water and the use of air bags to raise an object while in the water.
  • Charts, documenting, and recorder keeping were gone over in the classroom part of the course.Taking part in the exercises were instructor Ken Anderson, and Dive Team members Rodney Maggard, Preston Gaskin, Gregg Koller, Tim Fry and Greg Thomas.
