Russell Center of SCC, 3rd International Festival, Oct. 21, 2009

The Russell Center of Somerset Community College, 848 W Steve Wariner Drive, Russell Springs, KY, will hold the Third Annual International Festival on Wednesday, October 21, from 2 to 5 pm(CT). The public is invited and there is no admission charge.

The Russell Center will include a presentation on Gaelic Culture, a presentation by a missionary who served in Ecuador and Peru, and a presentation on Native American culture.

There will be displays on those cultures as well as displays on the Philippines, Guatemala, and on the Asian culture.

Light refreshments will be served.

Overcorrection factor in East 80, Columbia, KY crash

Kentucky State Police Post 15, Columbia, KY

Trooper Andy Olson is investigating a collision that occurred at 10/03/09 at 7:55 amCT, 4.5 miles east of Columbia on KY 80.

The collision occurred when Ocella Corbin, age 68, of Columbia, KY was operating a 1991 Dodge eastbound on KY 80, dropped off the shoulder of the roadway, overcorrected and lost control of the vehicle.

Arrest follows 2-vehicle injury collision at Hardscratch, KY

COLUMBIA, KY. Trooper Andy Olson is investigating a collision that occurred at 8:35amCT, Saturday morning, October 3, 2009, seven miles south of Columbia, KY on KY 55.

The collision occurred when a 1991 Toyota, operated by Glenn S. Mitchum, age 41, of Columbia, KY, was leaving Hardscratch General Store and pulled into the path of a 1998 Pontiac, which was being operated by Gwen Beckwith, age 49, of Jamestown, KY, who was traveling northbound on KY 55.

Obituary: William Robert Beard, Metcalfe Co., KY

Mr. Beard was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of the 7th Day Adventist Church and was a retired cabinet maker.

William Robert Beard. age 93 of Goodlettsville, TN. died Friday, October 2, 2009 in Springfield, TN.

The funeral services will be held 2:00pmCT, Monday, October 5, 2009, at Butler Funeral Home, 201 East ST, Edmonton, KY, with burial in the VanZant Cemetery, R. Mitchell RD, Knob Lick, KY. Visitation will be from 12 noon CT until 2pmCT, Monday, at the funeral home in Edmonton, KY.

At the same event, Dr. Lincoln Bingham was honored with the Campbellsville University Leadership Award.

FISHING: Heavy rains creating problems at Wolf Creek hatchery

Trout stockings moved up as result of conditions at Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery in Russell Co., KY
If you go to the Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery, 50 Kendall Road, Jamestown, KY 42629, is located a short 25.9 miles from the Adair County Courthouse, 500 Public Square, Columbia, KY. Ridden there and back many a time on a bicycle. -EW

FRANKFORT, KY. October 1, 2009 - Conditions at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery located in Russell County, KY below Wolf Creek Dam at Lake Cumberland deteriorated following the recent rains. Trout stockings for October and November must be moved up as a result.

"Lake Cumberland jumped up nearly 5 feet in the last two weeks," said John Williams, southeastern fishery district biologist for the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. "We've had a really unusual year so far; the amount of rain has really been a problem."
