Cousin Elizabeth Flowers Jones told him about Hindman portrait

Loss of portrait sad; so is the fact that Hindman's stone in Columbia City Cemetery was either destroyed or stolen.
About: Adair Co KY History Mystery: Where is likeness of Gov. Hindman?

"Jim":

Many years ago I was told of the portrait of Lt. Gov. Hindman by my cousin Elizabeth Flowers Jones.

Her grandfather and my great grandfather, George Whitfield Flowers. and Hindman were best of friends and served in the Thirteenth Union from Lexington, KY.

Not only is it sad that the portrait is lost, but Hindman was buried in the Columbia city cemetery and the stone was either destroyed or stolen.

Perhaps the marker and the portrait are resting together at some location where future ages shall find. Lets hope!

She loved her profession and kept at it for about 50 years. This had an influence on her family as both my father and I are teachers!

Thanks,

By Duane Bonifer, LWC Director of Public Affairs

Members of the Lindsey Wilson College Office of Residence Life recently installed Address Markers in front of buildings that have been converted into student housing for the 2009-10 school year.

With a record 872 students living in campus housing this school year, the college has temporarily housed about 50 students in buildings along Fairgrounds and Lindsey Wilson streets. To ease the campus housing crunch, Lindsey Wilson is building a 186-bed, 42,000-square-foot residence hall, which will be opened for the 2010-11 school year.

Neil,

Prayers from many people are with you and we know you will pull through this. When you wake you will be great. God created these bodies and he surely can heal them ! God hasn't changed but we as humans try to put limits on God. God is no different today than he was when he raised Lazurus from the dead. Miracles still happen and you will be one of those miracles, when you wake pls remember that God has a purpose for your life and through God's grace you are still here with us!

Adair Co., KY, History Mystery:
Where is likeness of Gov. Hindman?

Oil portrait once adorned the show window of Russell & Co, in downtown Columbia, KY. Historian "Jim" hopes it rests securely in a family collection, or perhaps in Adair County's most noted museum at the south edge of town

By "Jim"

Upon reading the following article in the February 26, 1908 Adair County News, I began pondering where this marvelous likeness of Gov. Hindman might now be. Does it reside in some dusty, long-forgotten garret? In a mouldy basement? Or, sadly, has it long since been relegated to the ash-heap of history?

Feedback: Liked Natural Bridge, Not Skylift

About: Scenic KY Natural Bridge State Park, Slade, KY

Jennifer Carter writes:
My family went on this journey a few years ago. It is a beautiful site. I did not enjoy the trip up the skylift. I am afraid of heights and this was a bit much for me. I kept my eyes closed most of the time. I did open them briefly to enjoy a second of the beautiful scenery, but with nothing under my feel and my son trying to shake the chair I was paralyzed with fear. Hope your trip was much more enjoyable.
Jennifer,
Thanks for writing. We skipped the chair and went up on foot, and it was thoroughly enjoyable.--Pen
