Rondyl Leftwich, who will receive the French Medal of Honor at the location, lived at an adjoining farm owned by his parents, the late Walter and Addie Turner Leftwich, where he, Geniece, and seven other siblings, grew up.

The Riches of a Child's Love
There are diamond and jewels,
A pot of gold they say to be found.
At the end of every rainbow,
As it shines down to the ground.

Rondyl Leftwich to receive honor from French Republic

Over 60 years have passed, but tomorrow, a Glasgow, KY, World War II veteran whose family roots run deep with the Leftwich and Scott families of Metcalfe County and the Turners of Adair County will be recognized with the presentation of the French Legion of Honor. This story by his sister is a brief chronicle of one family, nine children, the four sons who served in World War II, and the three months of family heartbreak when one son was wounded in one theatre of war, and then, 73 days later, from a world away from that scene and from their tranquil farm home outside Edmonton, KY - from the Philippines and the Pacific Theater of War - came word that a second son had died in battle. -EW

By Geneice Leftwich Marcum

A ceremony for World War II veteran Rondyl Leftwich is scheduled for at 2:00pmCT, Sunday, September 20, 2009, at the Leftwich House, Bowling Park, 1608 W. Stockton ST, Edmonton, KY.

Genealogy Query: Information on Kitty Leftwich, Adair Co., KY

Genealogy Queries with REUNIONS

While doing some research on the Leftwich side of her family, my niece Patty Reed of California, came across a Catherine (Kitty) Leftwich, born at Prices Creek in Adair County Kentucky, (1844-1858). There are conflicting dates of her birth and death, but available information indicates that she was born at Prices Creek. She was the daughter of Robert Turner Leftwich and Lucy Catherine A. Early Leftwich of Adair County Kentucky, formerly of Bedford County Virginia. One of Kitty Leftwich's brothers, Silas Early Leftwich, was my Great-Grandfather.

I would like to know if anyone living in the Price's Creek Community has any knowledge of an old cemetery where Leftwich graves are located.

I also wondered about old land deeds or grants that may have been issued in the name of Leftwich. If you know information that might help, please give me a call at (502) 437-0714 late evenings, or call (270) 384-3603 in Columbia and leave a message with my daughter Linda. Or a note to Geniece Marcum, 417 Tophill DR., Shelbyville, KY 40065 would be greatly appreciated.
