Writer needs advice on making chewing tobacco

About: Bruce Wilson has organic chewing tobacco crop ready to harvest

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Hey there. I am interested in a recipe for chewing tobacco. I bought 125 plants from Kirby Hancock of Adair County FFA at the local high school. I have harvested my tobacco and am drying in the garage. I have interest in making chaw, but would like some instructions. I hear you can boil down some apple juice and molasses, but would like a little more instruction. Do you have any contacts that can help me. Bruce Wilson?

Thanks for the help.

Extension Office adds Address Marker; example on agrisecurity

There's a blue and white Address Marker at yet another famous Adair County landmark. The Adair County Extension Service, 409 Fairground Street, bought one of the 5" by 15" blue with white letters markers and installed it on the office's distinctive lighted sign, just under its message board.

The marker, itself, purchased from the Adair County FFA, sends a message to Adair County farms about the need better attention to agrisecurity threats, Adair County Extension Agent for Agriculture & Natural Resources says.

"Address markers placed near or on farm sites or barns could assist emergency personal in the event of farm accidents as well as agrosecurity threats," Roy says. "In the event of an agrisecurity threat such as a disease outbreak or natrual disaster, address markers could assist local, state, or federal authorities in locating farms and/or livestock that needed assistance."

The Adair FFA has now sold around 300 of the Address Markers since starting a marketing campaign on August 26, 2009. The FFA delivers completed markers for just $15. For residences such as homes in the city of Columbia and homes in the country which don't have a rural type mail box in the yard, the FFA is manufacturing a easy to install, painted iron post with all necessary hardware for just $5.00 additional.

PRIDE offers $8,250 for litter disposal in Adair Co., KY in October

Adair County eligible for $7,500; City of Columbia $750. For more information locally, contact Adair County Solid Waste Coordinator A.L. Sinclair or Adair County PRIDE Coordinator Lisa Lee at (270) 384-4703; or Rhonda Loy, City of Columbia PRIDE Coordinator at (270) 384-2501

    By Cindy Lackey

SOMERSET, KY - PRIDE has set aside $8,250 to dispose of the litter picked up by volunteers in Adair County during Roadside PRIDE Month in October. Adair County and Columbia could win trophies if they outperform other counties and cities during the month-long cleanup competition.

"If you enjoy a hometown victory, then Roadside PRIDE is for you, because you really can't lose," said PRIDE's Karen Engle. "When you team with other volunteers to pick up litter, then your fall scenery will be even more beautiful for you and your tourists. That's a win. And, if you turn out more volunteers and clean up more trash than other communities, then your county or city will bring home a trophy. That's another win."
