Five major road widening projects complete. Four others are underway. CJE Ann Melton is already making list of priorities for Spring work. County Road crew can take its place superlative construction crew which attacks road projects with the intensity of Seabees, giving county as much reason for pride in the Road Department heroes as in its wonderful academics, athletes, emergency response teams, and volunteers

A knowledgeable traveller, blindfolded and taken up in a helicopter to a road site in Southern Adair County removed the blindfold, and asked to guess where he or she is located, he or she might guess that the location is somewhere along the reconconstruction path of KY 61 South.

Mr. Furkins of the UK wants to contact Adair Co., KY kin

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Hi! I live in Swindon in the UK. Having a rather small family of "Furkins" here in the UK was interested to find out that there may be a few of you over there in Columbia, KY?

I'm 49, married for 24 years. Have two lads - Danny (22) an English Teacher and Jamie (19) studying International History and Politics at Leeds University. Wondering if any of the clan would want to get in touch just to see how the other side of the family lives.

Best wishes to you all.

About: Birds of KY: White Bluebirds fledged at Hardscratch

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Well Ed, for those who are promoting legal alcohol sales in Adair, today's CM must be "sobering." With folks seeing white bluebirds at Hardscratch in a dry Adair, someone is gonna be rampled to death by a herd of pink elephants in Milltown if the county goes wet!

Mountain Sunrises and Affordable Gasoline

About: Smoky Mountain Sunrise

Stephen Caldwell writes:
Great picture Pen! I get to see the mountains every day on my drive to work. They truly are amazing.

You definitely should return to the smokey mountains. You would even get a little break on fuel costs down here. Today in Knoxville, regular unleaded can be found as cheap as $2.18/gallon, however, most are around $2.21/gallon.

Keep up the good work.
Stephen Caldwell
Stephen, Thanks for the kind words! I hope to get back to the mountains sometime this fall. -- Pen
